Always there to help you with everything you need The small and picturesque, seaside village of Ancient Epidaurus is situated 140 km south of Athens, in the Saronic gulf and 14 km away from the Asklepion. It is built on the ruins of an ancient town which was in fact the port and reception centre of the Asklepion pilgrims. Today several antiquities are spread in the village. You can visit the ruins of the ancient castle on the top of the hill ‘Nissi’. A bit further away, there is a Mycenaean cemetery with 7 arched graves and the remains of the temple of Artemis. The most important though and best reserved is a small, ancient theatre, built on the 4th century b.C., dedicated to God Dionyssos. Several performances take place there every July. Ever since the beginning of the International Athens and Epidaurus Festival in 1955, the village was featured as a centre of accommodation and entairtenment for artists and spectators. Its port and the surrounding bays became an attraction pole for sea cruisers and yachts. The small village attained touristic development and cosmopolitan prestige. The presence of famous, international jet-setters and artists ( Aristotle Onassis, Maria Callas, Melina Merkouri ) played an important role to its growth. The climate is mild ( average day temperature during winter 12-19 celcious). There are several beaches, ideal for relaxing and swimming,-most of them non touristic. The Yalassi beach is the only one, fully organized, with several beach bars and taverns. The picturesque taverns of the village always serve fresh fish but also excellent quality local meat. Nightlife is vivid mostly during summer, when you can enjoy your drink in the Yalassi beach bars and dance until dawn at the famous discotheque ‘Kapaki’. Because of the many antiquities the house development remained restricted, so the natural landscape remained untouched! The local people, when referring to their village, they always say: ‘this place is blessed from God!’ The bus station is right outside our hotel. In case you have a car, we offer you private parking. We can serve you a rich, traditional breakfast ,if you wish, at the price of 8,5 euros per person
