Old Beans Cottage is an 18th century former washhouse which has been beautifully converted into a studio cottage and furnished to an exceptional standard. This boutique cottage is located in East Barsham, a small village nestling in quiet, rolling countryside less than 3 miles from the market town of Fakenham, with excellent access to the North Norfolk Coast at Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham. The area is renowned for its bird watching opportunities with Cley and Titchwell within easy reach. Old Beans Cottage was converted into an exceptionally high quality studio cottage by internationally renowned wildlife cameraman Martin Hayward Smith. This sympathetically restored period dwelling overlooks water meadows and woodland. It is not unusual to see Barn Owls and nesting kestrels outside the Cottage. Many varieties of nest boxes have been placed nearby to encourage wildlife. The Cottage enjoys a unique location with peace and tranquility on your doorstep. Open plan room with Sitting/DiningArea with comfortable seating, flat screen TV, DVD, radio and iPod dock, dining table, chairs and French doors to the garden. Bedroom with a king-size bed, a large decorative wardrobe provides a screen to the living area. Well equipped kitchen with electric hob and oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and washing machine. Shower Room with shower cubicle with drench head and additional small head, washbasin and toilet. Towels are provided. Garden: Enclosed rear patio, overlooking wild flower garden. Garden chairs and table offer views over the water meadows and woodland. Webber BBQ provided. Parking: Driveway for one car. Heating: Electric central heating. Also Provided: Towels. WiFi. Hairdryer. About 3 miles north of the small market town of Fakenham, it is perfectly placed to offer excellent access to the North Norfolk Coast at Wells and Holkham. The area is renowned for its bird watching opportunities with Titchwell and Cley easily accessible. The WiFi has been updated and we now have a strong signal. Network mobile phone signal is intermittent, but iPhone wifi call is very good. The nearest pub, The Barsham Arms with cosy log fires, is a 4-minute walk. Nearest shop 2-3 miles. National Cycle routes 1 & 2 will take you through some super countryside and villages. With the coast so close and countryside on the doorstep, this is a great location for a relaxing break. For further details about the North Norfolk area see our Area Info page. Old Beans Cottage is located right at the heart of North Norfolk Coast. From the National Trust reserve at Titchwell to Cley, famous as a wetland bird sanctuary. The county’s famed ‘big skies’ will entice you with its immense sweeping beaches, unspoilt villages, traditional seaside resorts and tidal creeks just waiting to be explored. The Barsham Arms is a good gastro-pub, only a three minute walk away, with cosy log fires and good food. If cooking in the cottage you can find locally sourced foods at the excellent Walsingham Farm Shop. Follow the 47 mile North Norfolk Coastal path – part of the National Trail – as it winds its way from Hunstanton to Cromer. You don’t have to walk the whole way, of course; why not use the excellent Coasthopper bus service to walk the bits you want and bus the bits you don’t? This can be caught at the bottom of the lane. Along the way you’ll find sandy cliffs, shingle beaches, salt marshes and a Nature Reserve at Holkham – all designated as areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wildlife enthusiasts can take a boat trip to Blakeney Point to visit the seal colony there. Check for schedules and prices at Beans Boat Trips and Bishop’s Boats. Not got your sea-legs? Then visit the Hawk & Owl Trust Reserve at Sculthorpe Moor just outside Fakenham. Pensthorpe Natural Park is also worth a visit, and has a good cafe and shop. Often called the bird-watching capital of Britain, the coastal areas especially offer a large range of locations for bird sightings. Visit RSPB nature reserves at Titchwell and Snettisham or just wander the coastal paths or quiet back-roads armed with binoculars and see what flies by. Six miles from the North Norfolk Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Coasthopper bus stops at the end of the lane.
