Newly renovated boutique barn Nr Brighton & Lewes
A boutique 1 bedroom, self catering holiday cottage. Located on a working farm in the South Downs, we are situated just outside Lewes and a few miles from Brighton. The Hovel is an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful South Downs, with easy access by car, bus or bike. There are amazing walks on the doorstep along the South Downs Way, the coast is a short drive away and all the attractions of Lewes and Brighton are a short journey by pedal, bus or car. Bedroom: The bedroom has a super king sized bed dressed in a feather and down duvet and organic cotton sheets. There is a travel cot for little people and a small single camp bed is available by request. There is plenty of hanging and storage space for your clothes and bags too. Bathroom: The large bathroom has a separate walk-in rain shower, a rolltop free standing bath and large organic cotton towels. There is underfloor heating to keep your toes warm and also lovingly made local soap. Kitchen: The well equipped, light filled kitchen we hope has everything you will need for cooking and a dishwasher to help you clear up afterwards. There is also a washing machine/tumble dryer and a dining table to seat 4 people. We also supply a hamper full of local and sustainable produce. Living room: The cosy living room (open plan with the kitchen) has a comfy sofa and armchair and views of the garden and fields beyond - you may even see a cow or horse grazing! There are large bi-folding doors that fully open onto a patio area. There is also a wood burning stove for the winter months. There is Wi-Fi and a Smart television should you wish to use either. Outside: The Hovel has a patio area over looking fields. It has seats for your morning coffee, a dining table that seats four and a BBQ to cook your evening supper on. Please note that due to our very accessible location near the A27 you can hear some traffic in the garden area. The Hovel was an old animal shelter before being converted into a stylish self catering holiday let. It is run by Nick and Lydia - Nick also runs the farm with his father and Lydia is an illustrator. Lydia has sourced a range of locally made products for a welcome hamper and sources eco products for the kitchen and bathroom. The Hovel is located on a working farm so you are likely to see and hear cows during your stay, as well as farm machinery. We hope you will enjoy seeing the farm activities going on. We are located directly on the South Downs Way; a spectacular National Trail that runs from Winchester in the west to Eastbourne in the East. The Hovel is located directly on the trail, about 20 miles from Eastbourne. The trail provides brilliant walking in its own right, but also access to endless other footpaths that explore the Sussex countryside. If you like walking, there is no better place to spend a weekend. Lewes is a unique place, with a strong sense of identity (it even has its own currency!), a buzzing art scene and a slightly alternative feel. The market town of Lewes is 3 miles away (accessible by bus, car or bike). The town has a great selection of independent shops, antique markets to browse, a fab local food market at the market tower every Friday and a bustling farmers market on the first and third Saturday of each month. There are also loads of small coffee shops, restaurants and pubs, with plentiful supplies of the locally brewed Harveys Ale. The original Bill’s café (they have now opened nationally) is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner and serves excellent food with a vibrant atmosphere. Brighton is 7 miles away and again, easy to get to by bus or bike. Brighton needs no introduction and it has all the attractions that you’d expect of a major city, and far too many to mention here! However, the highlights for us would definitely include; popping down to the seafront for an ice cream on the Brighton pier, visiting the stunning historic Royal Pavilion and then finishing it off with a lovely amble through the North laines where there are hundreds of small independent shops, cafes and market stalls. There are also several historic buildings to look around, including Lewes Castle, Anne of Cleves House and The Old Priory. Walking or cycling in either direction along the South Downs Way from The Hovel quickly leads to spectacular views from the top of the escarpment, out over the weald or to the coast. On a clear day, you can see for miles, sometimes even getting a peek of the Isle of Wight! There are some charming country houses and gardens to visit locally; Monk's House (NT), Charleston, Sheffield Park and Garden (NT), Wakehurst (Kew), and Nymans (NT). There is a bus stop right outside the farm with a regular bus to Brighton or Lewes. There is also a cycle path to both. The farm is easily accessible by car. The barn is set on a working farm so you may hear the odd cow or tractor. (Website hidden by Airbnb) - updated - 1st February 2021 We are so sad to be closing our doors again due to the new national lockdown but we look forward to welcoming guests again as soon as possible. The Hovel is a great place to get away from it all as we have the South Downs literally on our door step. We have heaps of beautiful and remote walks we can recommend along with lots of local businesses and food suppliers which have adapted to the current situation with take aways and deliveries. The property is located on our farm and sits away from any other dwelling so is a perfect place to ‘social distance’ from. We have been very busy while being closed during the lockdowns finding ways we could open our doors again safely. Below are some of the key points we have implemented to ensure this: + We will be adding a 24+ hour break between all stays + After each stay, The Hovel will undergo a deep clean, especially in areas of high touch and hard surfaces + All linen will be washed at high temperatures. If you feel more comfortable, you’re more than welcome to bring your own linen + There will be self check in and check out + We will be supplying ample cleaning supplies, disinfectant and soap throughout the property + For more in depth details of the above, please click here Due to all of the above new policies, we will only be able to accept bookings of 5 nights + in Low and Mid Season and 1 week+ in High Season. If you have any questions, please do drop us an enquiry. Stay safe x
