In recent years we have coverted an old apple store into a very comfortable self catering gite Our three acre property is situated in the Pays d'Auge where a large part of the region is given over to dairy farming and stud farms. . Very comfortably furnished with French and English antiques it will sleep four adults having one double bedroom and one twin bedded room.. The light ,airy and very spacious living area has stairs leading down to a large double bedroom with French windows to a private south facing garden with patio , garden furniture and BBQ....We are three kilometres from Gace ....a small market town with good food shopping and restaurants. Gace has a small museum dedicated to Alphonsine Plessis , aka La Dame aux Camellias . She was born in a nearby hamlet in 1824 and at the tender age of 14 went to Paris to earn her living .Because of her beauty she became the muse of several artists,musicians and authors but died tragically at the age of 23... Every Thursday afternoon during the summer months there is an equestrian display .. Also local to La Tournerie are several historic sites connected to the second world war . The Normandy landing beaches and Pegasus bridge are about an hour distant . Just 15 minutes away is the Memorial of Montormel dedicated to the Battle of the Falaise Pocket which played a most important part after the D Day landings. La Tournerie is not far from Junction 16 on the A28. Just an hour's drive will take you to the historic town of Le Mans... Home of the Plantagenets and 24 hour racing! .A popular visit with our guests is the town of l'Aigle which boasts to have one of the largest street markets in France and has an excellent daily fast train service to Paris. The Pays d'Auge has much to offer you as a holiday venue Excellent local restaurants , chateaux, street markets ,antique fairs ,local cider ,calvados await your discovery.. .
