Just 25 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco, Muir Beach is a hidden jewel and West Marin living at its best. The beach is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and surrounded by coastal trails. Visitors may also enjoy hiking Mt. Tamalpais or visiting Muir Woods National Monument, Green Gulch Farm/Zen Center, and The Pelican Inn, an authentic English pub. Activities abound: hiking, cycling, mountain biking, fishing, surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming. Walk to beach and hiking trails. Muir Woods is three miles away. Sausalito and its beautiful bay views, shops and restaurants is 10 miles away. San Francisco/Golden Gate Bridge is 12 miles away (25-30 minute drive). Downtown Mill Valley is six miles away and filled with boutique shops, restaurants, cafes, and a movie theater. *Car rental recommended. Uber and Lyft provides service to Muir Beach but it can be difficult and slow to get an Uber or Lyft from Muir Beach. Ten Things To Do When You Visit The Love Shack 1. Hike the Coastal Trail to our north (starts at Muir Beach Overlook) or south (starts from Muir Beach). 2. Muir Woods (10 minutes; crowded on weekends, go early, **See Below for parking reservation information.) 3. Pelican Inn (One minute; apres beach for a drink, dinner, or Sunday brunch) 4. Stinson Beach (30 minutes) and Bolinas (45 minutes). Enjoy the beautiful coastal drive and cute beach towns along Hwy 1 North. 5. Point Reyes (One hour; lighthouse, cute town. A little farther north, enjoy oysters on Tomales Bay at Hog Island Oysters.) 6. Golden Gate National Recreation Area: tons of hiking trails around Mt. Tam surrounding Muir Beach. 7. Sausalito (15 minutes. Enjoy views of the bay and San Francisco. Shops and restaurants; our favorites are Fish and Le Garage. Take ferry from Sausalito to San Francisco and enjoy the ride on the bay.) 8. Downtown Mill Valley (20 minutes; shops and restaurants. Use shortcut; see map in drawer or map it.) 9. Golden Gate Bridge (20 minutes; walk or bike it) 10. Wine country (1 hour) The nearest grocery stores are in Mill Valley (Safeway, Whole Foods, Good Earth). We suggest you stop at the store before your arrival. You may enjoy dining at the Pelican Inn or several restaurants in downtown Mill Valley including Balboa Cafe, Vasco, Piazza D'Angelo Ristorante, Bungalow 44, Playa, Joe's Taco Lounge & Salsaria, and more. *** VISITING MUIR WOODS*** The Love Shack is 2.4 miles from Muir Woods. The shuttle is $3 and can be boarded at the Pohono Park & Ride lot, 100 Shoreline Highway near Sausalito. • Walk for Free Muir Woods is a 2.4-mile walk from the Love Shack. Park Entrance Fee $10.00 per adult (16 years and older) Free - child (15 years and younger) Users are urged to download, screen shot or print their parking or shuttle reservations in advance because of the lack of Wi-Fi or cellphone service at or near Muir Woods. Animals: The Love Shack is not suitable for any animals including Emotional Support Animals or ESAs due to health (asthma, allergies) and safety issues of others (other animals on property will not tolerate strange animals.)
