Located high up in the Tamar Valley, The Tamar Orchard barn is the ideal rural retreat to enjoy the ‘horticultural treasure trove gardens of Sandhill House, with its formal water garden, summer house and open fields overlooking the truly, stunning but hidden Tamar Valley. Views of the world-renowned Dartmoor National Park entice you to explore, beyond your ‘sanctuary’. There is a pond in the garden. Directions to The Tamar Orchard Barn If you are planning to use SatNav to find us, as far as I am aware it may take you to the wrong place ie. the houses below Sandhill House. Assuming you are planning to arrive via the M5 and then A30, and perhaps visit Tavistock on your way through, turn off the A30 onto the A386, at Sourton Services, which is signed TAVISTOCK/PLYMOUTH. Proceed to Tavistock; keep on the A386 until the roundabout with the statue of Sir Francis Drake. Turn right at the roundabout, you will then be on the A390. Follow the signs to Gunnislake passing over the River Tamar via the narrow stone bridge New Bridge (built in 1530!). Pass through Gunnislake, (traffic light control on narrow section). After passing up the steep hill out of Gunnislake you will see Gunnislake Station on your left. Turn into the station, and come back onto the main road. Turn right back down the hill for 30 metres and just after a road called Sand Hill Park you will see Sandhill Lodge on your left. Sandhill House and The Tamar Orchard Barn are through the stone pillars to the right of the Lodge. If you are coming from the A38 Plymouth direction follow the signs for Tavistock. Pass Lidl and Morrisons supermarkets on your left and you will arrive at Sir Francis Drake’s statue; turn left and follow the directions as above. If you are arriving from Callington, on the A390, pass through St Anne’s Chapel and Drakewalls, then when you pass the Co-op garage on your right, and Gunnislake Station will be on your right; follow instructions above. Pass through the granite pillars and travelling slowly down the carriage drive (lots of birds and squirrels), at the bottom of the drive take the right fork and you will see Sandhill House. We hope you have a pleasant journey and look forward to meeting you, when we shall be pleased to give you the key to The Tamar Orchard Barn, and to show you around. If you need help though please do call on 07713 077877. Mary and Andrew
