Mini Suite in the House of Odd
Only two blocks from the Woodstock square, your room is located within our historic 1902 Craftsman home, the Louis G. Wilcox House. Beyond your private quarters, you will be greeted by artwork, taxidermy, plants, strange antiques, our adorable dogs, Keaton and Jingles, and tabby cat, Oliver! Anyone familiar with the film Groundhog Day will find the area recognizable, as our home is just down the street from the inn where the movie was filmed. Your private room features a sleeping area with a queen size bed which can be divided off from a small sitting area. The sitting area contains a pullout sofa, to accommodate additional guests. What once was a sunporch has been renovated into a unique, year-round living space complete with central air and heat (and an extra heater if you are always cold, like Colleen!). Beyond your door you will find the shared first floor of our home. Minus Matt’s art studio, make yourself at home! Our guests are free to utilize our living room, dining room, full bathroom, and kitchen at all times. During warmer months, enjoy our deck, backyard, gardens, and fire pit! Your room features private entry from outside which is not utilized by anyone else in our home. The room can also be locked off from the rest of our home by guests. Shared spaces include the living room, dining room, kitchen, full first floor bathroom, backyard, deck, and a laundry area located in the basement. The only areas which are off-limits to guests include Matt's first floor art studio, and the second story of the home. My husband Matthew, my brother Quinn, and I live in the home full time, so we will be available daily for any needs. When home, each of us are usually working in our own offices/studios. While we like allowing our guests to be independent, we are always just a message away! The location of our home is right in the middle of Woodstock, meaning restaurants, coffee shops, a movie theatre, the opera house, historic sites, shopping, art galleries, and other treats are all within a five minute walk from our home. Our home is two blocks from the Metra train station, making it easy to take a trip to Chicago for the day or access O'Hare Airport . The train station also has a bike share station if you prefer to mosey around town on two wheels. The city also offers other transportation options including car rentals, Uber, Lyft, Sunshine Taxi, and Pace buses. While your stay will not be affected, our home is under constant, light historical restoration. Our current projects are our bathroom and python terrarium, so please excuse any spackle or minor construction clutter! Our driveway is shared with our neighbors. Please be courteous when parking to ensure that entry to the driveway isn’t blocked. If you will have more than one vehicle, there is free street parking one house down on a side street, or in a 24 hour parking lot a few houses away. Our cat and dogs are sweet as can be and have access to roam the home’s common areas. While they are never allowed in our private guest room, they are very furry critters. If you have allergies to either, or a phobia of pet hair, please be aware before booking. To balance out the furry critters, our house is home to a few scaly ones as well. Sunny the corn snake and our three ball pythons (Baby Noodle, Adventure Noodle, and Elder Noodle) are within the common area. Their enclosures are locked at all times and are not taken out while guests are in our home (unless they request a snake hang-out session!). If you have a phobia of snakes, please be aware before booking. We have a passion for art and it is a central theme throughout our home. Our collection is diverse and includes works that depict many subjects, including nudity and dark subject matter. If you have a phobia of human anatomy or spooky skeletons, please be aware before booking.
