A beautiful & charming house under the typical cork oaks on Mount Picota, Monchique. Overlooking the quaint city of Monchique on the mountain opposite, Casa Castanheiro is an oasis in nature, quiet but not out of this world (a five-minute drive down to the village, the closest beach is a 30-min drive away). It's a heaven for nature-loving folks who wish to have a stay away from tourism in the refreshing climate of Monchique Your stay will be in a separate part of the house with one bedroom, one living room with a sofa bed to accommodate a third person and a little kitchen unit (including a fridge, sink, microwave/grill and an electric stove), one bathroom and your own private terrace with the beautiful view towards the opposite mountain and the village Monchique. In the direct surroundings of the house, you can find several hammocks to relax, a pool (shared use with us) and more opportunities to relax in the sun or in the shade under the trees. As we do organic gardening on the terraces below the property you can fill your shopping basket with seasonal fruits and vegetables from our organic garden or organic eggs from our chicken. We also have several goods like pickles, marmalades, kombucha, sourdough bread, which are available on demand. The house is situated just next to a hiking trail network and has only one neighbor. The whole flat is prepared to be child safe with security plugins, the property is fully fenced and there is a soon to be finished barrier for the area of the pool. Also we do have a children´s bed, books some toys and enough space to run freely for the little ones. And in case you consider to stay in the winter season, we can't guarantee you sunshine (it does rain occasionally even in the Algarve) however at least you are going to feel warm and cozy inside, as the house has double-glassing, a very nice wood oven, and underfloor heating! We are living in the other part of the house, so usually, we are around and are very happy to help you with any questions you might have. We do want to mention that we have a 3- year- old and a new-born son who are usually happy but you might hear them occasionally. Monchique is a very unique place, close to the busy Algarve yet it still preserved the charm of rural Portugal as it used to be. Traditional farmers and idealistic ex-pats make up the town's population, there are a couple of small cafés & restaurants but don't expect too much of the usual tourist infrastructure (fortunately;). The house only has one neighbor and is a five- minute drive up the hill away from the village of Monchique. The house is on the slopes of the Picota mountain, so a walk to the village takes around 3o minutes. Be aware that in Portugal´s countryside it is very common to have dogs to secure properties, so you might hear occasionally dogs barking at night. There are public buses from and to Portimão on the coast (30 min. drive) and then on to Faro airport and the rest of the Algarve (buses & trains). The nearest supermarket, bus station and cafe is in the village of Monchique with a 5 minute drive by car.
