Situated on the grounds of a former summer camp, this freshly renovated 1-bdrm cabin has a modern kitchen, full bathroom, and sleeps up to 4: double bed & two twins. Best for a couple or family. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, fridge, coffee maker, and all basic cookware. Clean sheets & towels are provided. Merle has a small front porch and is a one minute walk to the lake. Dog friendly! Please see info about pet fee in the notes below. Sorry - no cats. Once the Camp office, Merle has been thoughtfully reimagined as a cozy modern cabin with retro touches and a combination of new and up-cycled materials. The kitchen is spacious and has a gas stove, live wood counter with stools to hang out or eat and is equipped with pots, pans, plates, glasses, mugs, and all the basic cooking utensils. The full bathroom has a stall shower with great water pressure; fresh towels are provided. The bedroom has a double bed, small closet space, and a cozy modern gas fireplace. The main space includes two twin beds. Though the cabin does sleep four, it is best for a family or a couple; four adults in the space is doable but a little tight. If you are looking to book for 4 adults, we highly recommend considering two of our cabins (all links are listed in my profile). We provide clean linens and blankets for the one double bed and two twins. The living space includes two couches by the gas fireplace and a tv (but who needs a television in this stunning location??) Merle is fully insulated and stays cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. (We've been there when it was -20F!!) Nestled in the hills of the Northeast Kingdom, Camp Wapanacki was founded as a summer camp in 1938. Established as a camp for blind children, and later run by the Girl Scouts, Camp Wapanacki is being reborn as a four-season retreat. Wapanacki is comprised of 230 acres of woodland, plus a 25-acre private lake for swimming and non-motorized boats. There are miles of trails to explore, perfect for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, and hiking and biking in the summer. Kayaks and canoes are available for all guests late spring to mid-fall. You will have access to a shared gas grill on the porch of the main clubhouse, located just across the road from your cabin. The porch has picnic tables late spring to early fall. This is also where our Wifi zone is located. The interior of the clubhouse is private and you will not have access. We have multiple fire pits on property, including the original campfire pit right by the beach. Our caretaker is often on property and is available for emergency situations. The hosts are available by text or phone during your stay. Wapanacki feels remote but is just 10 minutes from all the conveniences in Hardwick including a grocery store, liquor store, pharmacy, local food co-op, woodfire pizza/American fare restaurant, great diner, and gas station. Camp is a great base for experiencing all Vermont has to offer. Stowe, Jay's Peak, and Smugglers Notch are all about an hour away. Hill Farmstead and Lost Nation Breweries are about a 30-minute drive. Barr Hill / Caledonia Spirits distillery is right in Hardwick. There are also multiple hiking, biking, and ATV trails minutes away. Merle Cabin is located next to Scout Cabin, also available on AirBnB. We have a total of five cabins for rent at Camp Wapanacki, so you may have the entire property to yourself, but other renters may be there too. Get in the camp spirit and say hello! The maximum number of people who might be at camp is 14 (including you and your party) and there is plenty of space for everyone to keep safe distance and enjoy the lake and the trails. If you are interested in coming with friends and renting more than one cabin, please let us know! Wapanacki is the perfect place for friends and families to spend time together, but each stay in your own safe and clean space. NOTE: We do have a wifi "zone" on property but please be prepared to be unplugged while you are in your cabin. NOTE to those bringing DOGS: We do encourage you to bring your dog, but please note that we do have a fee of $75 per dog. We ask you to leave your pet fee in cash on departure. Sorry, we do not allow cats. WINTER: The roads to camp are plowed by the city of Hardwick and they do a great job! Our main camp road is plowed by our awesome caretaker. That said, we recommend having a 4-wheel drive vehicle when visiting in the winter months. For those who plan to snowshoe: Please stay on the snow while wearing snowshoes; do NOT attempt to walk on the stairs or porches of any building while wearing snowshoes or other shoe attachments with spikes such as “Yak Tracks”.
