Chawton is one of the prettiest villages in Hampshire. From the cottage there is access to many country walks. It is also within easy access of several other historic villages and towns such as Selborne (Gilbert White's museum), Alton (The Watercress Line), Alresford and Winchester. Breakfast is available at an additional cost in the tea rooms next door. Cassandra's Cup tea shop is renowned for it's quintessential charm and afternoon teas and also serves delicious light snacks and hot meals throughout the day. Check in by lockbox. The owners of Cassandra's Cottage live just a stone's throw away and are always happy to be of assistance! Their idyllic 16th century thatched cottage is amongst one of the prettiest and most photographed houses in the area. Chawton is the postcard perfect English village with its many period houses, Jane Austen's House and the magnificent Chawton House (open to the public) - not to mention the Chawton cricket pitch where cricket is played daily during summer months against a backdrop of sheep and the famous Chawton House shire horses grazing peacefully in their paddock. Being in the middle of a National Park, Chawton is surrounded by outstandingly beautiful countryside. At the same time, it is not a remote village. It is within walking distance of the market town Alton which has several shops, banks and rail links to the rest of the country, including London, less than 1 hour away by train. There is a bus stop directly opposite the B&B with links to Alton and Winchester. Alton, which is a 20 minute walk away or a short bus drive, has a train station with links to several towns and cities. Free WIFI.
