Cosy fisherman's cottage & garden
Our lovely cottage & courtyard garden is on a quiet street in old Harwich, just one road back from the pier. Excellent pubs & beach staggeringly close, 5 minute walk to train station, 2 stops to international ferry to Holland, London 1hr20m. The cottage has three bedrooms over two floors (with very steep stairs) and is suitable for children & well behaved, house trained pets. I have completed the Control of Cross Infection in a Post Covid 19 World Qualification, which guides our cleaning regime. The cottage is close to the international ferry services (2 stops & 5 minutes on the train), beaches, excellent pubs and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and reputedly this coast of Essex has the sunniest microclimate in Britain. You will be renting the whole cottage which has a well equipped kitchen, ground floor bathroom, living room with superfast broadband, HD TV, DVD player and open fire. Upstairs there is a double room and a single room on the first floor, and a further double on the top floor. We have a key safe so guests can let themselves in independently in this Post-COVID-19 world. We live only next door and are there to help you out when you need us. We will arrange the rubbish and recycling each week if your stay coincides with the collection days. We maintain the garden and do share the whirligig washing line, though we will be unobtrusive during your stay. Beautiful scenery and architecture, Harwich is a quirky historic town. The local people are friendly and welcoming. The scenery is constantly changing from the pier, docks and seascapes, and we have a lovely foreshore with rare plants and lots of sea birds. The Electric Palace cinema built in 1911, and the pubs, cafes and restaurants are great. Ice cream on the Pier highly recommended. You can catch an hourly train to Manningtree along the River Stour, where you can change for fast trains to London & Colchester, Ipswich, (where you can change again for Cambridge) and Norwich, buses to many places including Clacton, Colchester etc, excellent walking routes including the Essex Way, Foot Ferry from Ha'penny Pier from Spring to Autumn across to Shotley and Felixstowe, International ferry to Holland and excellent cycle routes. The cottage was built in the late 1700s / early 1800s by the Dutch, who are notorious for maximising the use of space, hence the stairs are steep with narrow treads and high risers, just like on a boat.
