Only 15 minutes drive to James Bond beach, 30 minutes to shopping in Ocho Rios and 75 minutes away from Port Antonio. Local shopping, churches, local beach and hospital only 5 minutes away in Port Maria. If you like history then visit the site of Fort Haldane (Grace Charity), built in the 1700s, and see the original British Royal artillery cannons used by Sir Henry Morgan (Buccaneer turned Governor ), to defend Port Maria, a mere short hike or 3 minute car ride away. St Mary Parish church is also 3 minutes away and is an amazing piece of architecture completed in 1861, from limestone. It is next door to the war (WW I) memorial park, where you will find the names of local Port Maria residents who were members of the British West Indies Regiment & fought for the British Empire. The first man of colour to ever be commissioned as an officer in the regular British Army (1914), Lt David L Clemetson, is also memorialized there on the Cenotaph. The son of wealthy Port Maria land owners, he was killed in action near Peronne, In the Somme and is buried in Vendhuile, France. Sir Noel Coward's "Fire Fly," a favorite of the British Queen Mum, is just a 2.5 mile hike away or a 15 minute car ride, for breathless views of the area and a walk back in time. Hang out where the “Jamaican Mafia” (Sir Noel Coward, Errol Flynn and James Bond creator, Ian Fleming) did. Enjoy pizza and drinks at the 007 Bar and restaurant at the Casa Maria Hotel. Babysitting may be arranged for an extra cost and this location is ideal for weddings and family gatherings. Handicapped accessible and service animal friendly.
