Flint Cottage is a lovingly renovated Grade II listed cottage in the centre of the thatched village of Wherwell in Hampshire - 40 metres to our village pub (White Lion) and walking distance to two other pubs - one is next to the River Test (The Mayfly) and the other is in the next village of Chilbolton (Abbots Mitre). All three serve tasty meals, and cooked breakfasts are available at the village shop/cafe in Chilbolton, and with 24 hours notice at The White Lion (8-9.30am, not on Tuesdays). Wherwell has a beautiful common with the River Test running through it which is ideal for walking, as is Harewood Forest and the Test Way, all accessible by foot from the cottage. Walking maps and details of local attractions are available in the cottage. Our local vinyard, Black Chalk, provides tours and tastings. We live in the cottage next door so are on hand if help is required but we always respect your privacy. The cottage is self contained, centrally heated and comprehensively equipped, e.g. TV, wifi, wood burner (logs supplied), DVD, radio, hairdryer, iron, etc and a fully kitted kitchen with oven, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, and access on request to a washing machine and dryer. The holiday cottage garden has a table, chairs, and a gas BBQ, and we have a hot-tub in our own garden next door that our guests can enjoy by prior arrangement at the time of booking. The hot tub is located in a secluded part of our garden with easy access from the holiday cottage garden. There are also 4 bicycles available on request (2 are folding bikes with small wheels). We are near to Stockbridge (4 miles) with its pretty high street and independent shops and restaurants, and the historic cities of Winchester (10 miles) and Salisbury (20 miles). There is a village shop/cafe in Chilbolton (the next village), a Co-op in Stockbridge and a selection of large supermarkets in Andover (5 miles). The cottage is ideally placed for walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding and golf. There is a wealth of information in the cottage about local attractions, restaurants and places to visit, such as the Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery or the Waitrose Leckford Estate farm shop (great for breakfast, lunch and tea). Our continental breakfast welcome pack includes coffee, tea, sugar, milk and orange juice, plus croissants or bread, and butter and jam. We can supply more provisions on request at cost. The cottage has easy access from London, and is 1 mile from the A303 and close to the M3. The nearest railway station is Andover (5 miles), and if we are available and by prior arrangement we can collect guests and return them to the station. We look forward to welcoming you to our lovely holiday home. Wherwell is one of the most picturesque villages in the Test Valley, and boasts some of the finest timber framed thatched cottages in the county. It is situated on the banks of the River Test, famous for its trout fishing. The village is separated from its neighbouring village of Chilbolton by the River Test and the Chilbolton Cow Common. The Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is home to over 100 different plants and grasses, as well as many wild birds. North of Wherwell is Harewood Forest. This is the largest area of woodland within Hampshire, outside of the New Forest. It provides an excellent woodland habitat for wildlife, including roe deer and buzzards.
