Genêts is a quaint little village typical of the area with it's old stone houses that date back many hundreds of years. It's peaceful and situated in the bay with fantastic views on the Mont Saint-Michel and Tombelaine, a bird reserve. It's very picturesque and there are plenty of walks around. The salt marshes ("les grèves") are home to many species of bird and of course the famous sheep of the Bay of Mont Saint Michel ("moutons de pré-salé"). We are lucky to have some very good restaurants in the village : - "La Pause des Genêts" run by a fun couple serves original and delicious dishes in a quaint and cosy setting. - "Le Petit Navire" run by a lovely couple serves excellent traditional local meals. - "Chez François" cooks his local meat in the chimney in front of you in a traditional yet slightly atypical ambiance. - We can also recommend other good restaurants nearby so don't hesitate to ask us. There is also a bakery a few steps away for fresh bread, yummy pastries and home made ice cream in summer and a friendly small convenient store with local produce. The village has a river, a water mill, a 12th century church with a lovely garden and the famous guided walks across the bay which leave from the beach at Bec d'Andaine or from the nearby village of Saint Léonard. There are more restaurants, bars, cafes, stores, large supermarkets and an organic food shop in Avranches (15 minutes drive) and Granville (25 minutes drive). For recommendations on things to see and do in the area, check out our map or ask us. We highly recommend that you travel by car. The nearest train stations are Avranches (15 minutes by car) and Granville (20 minutes by car) from where you can catch a taxi or a bus depending on the bus timetable, but keep in mind you would have to call a taxi again to leave the house or hope the timing coincides with the bus time table. The bus stop is a minute walk from the house. The closest large shops are in Avranches but there is a small convenient shop and a baker in the village. There is so much to do and see in our region, here are only a few suggestions • We are near the Mont Saint-Michel and are located in the village from which you can walk across the bay to the Mont.
