Bakki Apt - New modern 1-bedroom seaside apartment
Guest apartment with all-new construction, bright and modern Scandinavian design. The apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom with rain shower, bedroom with large double bed (180x200cm) or two single beds upon request. In the living area is a dining area for 4 and a sofa, which is easily changed to a double bed (140x200cm). Just steps from the sea and the seaside path running the length of the old fishing village of Eyrarbakki. Feel free to contact us by phone or e-mail any time, with any questions, needs, or special requests. We can provide travel/tour advice, local information, as well as some insight into Icelandic culture and language, if you wish (I'm American and my husband is Icelandic). For the moment, between our 2-year-old son and little daughter (born 11 April 2017), the restaurant, and the hostel, life is quite hectic, but our guests are a priority and if you need anything or just want to have a chat over coffee, send me a message :) Eyrarbakki is a quiet little town now, but it was once a busy trading port and a critical center of commerce between Iceland and Denmark. Many of the houses are over a hundred years old, and you'll find one of the oldest wooden houses in Iceland in the village (built 1765), which now houses the local folk museum. You can also get the country's best lobster at the local restaurant, the TripAdvisor "Certificate of Excellence"-winning Rauða Húsið, just a 5-minute walk away! Parking on-site, but that's not really an issue in this town. There is local bus service, but it's best to have your own transportation. Located about 1 hour from the airport if you take the coastal road, about 45 minutes from Reykjavik, and about 15 minutes from Selfoss (shopping, bars, movie theater). If you need to do laundry, let us know. For a small fee, we can wash and dry it for you. Be prepared that this is a small town and things close early and open late, so make sure you have what you need for the next day's breakfast before it gets late. Samkaup in Selfoss is open 7:00 a.m. until 23:00, and there's a bakery in Selfoss that opens at 8:00 a.m. If you get stuck, let us know. If you are lucky enough to catch the Northern Lights, the best place to see & photograph them is from the beach at the west end of town (drive past the Rauða Húsið restaurant and down to the end of the paved road, then keep driving on the dirt track until you find the place you want to stop).
