156 year old individual luxury farm home in nature

The freshly remodelled side house of Papenwohld is a unique house that provides perfect condition for a relaxing getaway in nature or a creative retreat. The old romantic, sun flooded house offers diverse use from individuals to large creative groups or families. Papenwohld is the home of the Papenwohld Artist Residency - a non-profit art project founded and run by the hosts. Everything from music festivals, yoga and horse workshops to concerts and art exhibitions have been celebrated here. Covid19 update: As of now we are happy to host you based on the official regulations set by the state of Schleswig Holstein. The original farm of Papenwohld was built in 1864 and is located right at the edge of the nature park Hüttener-Berge. It offers an idyllic atmosphere to relax or work in the middle of nature, surrounded only by green fields and forests. Officially part of the tiny village Klein Wittensee, it lays right in between the surrounding villages, with the next neighbours 1/2 miles down the road. There are beautiful lakes nearby, that are only minutes away by bike. There are only a few cars passing by during the day, and it is pretty much silence at night. But the highway A7 is less than 10 minutes by car and the Baltic Sea beach in Eckernförde is less than 7 miles away. So it is not just a retreat "at the end of the road” - in the middle of nature, but it's also a great base for trips to discover Northern Germany. Please mind that this is not a typical vacation home, this is our home when we are in need of nature and our base for many creative projects. We hope, that our guest will care for it as they care for their own home. Even though groups with more than 25 people have spent nights in the house we usually rent out the house to no more than 16 guests. Please make sure to read the description, room- and bed-counts carefully and check out the photos in the gallery before you decide with how many guests you would like to stay with us. The old Diele is the main entrance and features big window doors on either side, a long dining table and a big kitchen for large groups, that we build ourselves. Right next to it is the first double bed room we call Gartenzimmer and a luxurious bathroom with waterfall shower and a direct view of the horse area and our vegetable garden. The side entrance lead to the utility and laundry room outside the house. Above the Gartenzimmer is the second double bedroom we call Pferdestall. A kingsize bed, a comfy armchair an even better view to watch the horses and a cute little indoor window to the Diele invite you to relax. Across the hall is the second full bathroom with a unique touch and much better usability than the old bathroom prior to renovation. Upstairs on the opposite side there is the so-called Studio, where many bands have recored their albums. The sun flooded space - with the best south side view is setup as the living room with lots of space to utilize for seminars, workshops, a movie night and so on. During the next few months we will add a fireplace and a larger L-sofa for even more comfort in the colder season. Furthermore there is an additional queen size bed and a hammock. From the Studio and the Diele you can enter the three little cozy sleeping bunks with new roof top windows that allow our guests to find moments of privacy even with lots of people in the house. The side house has two separate apartments with an entrance each. Camilla and I are living with our lovely dog Minou in the lower right. Our guests stay in the rest of the house with the old Diele as their main private entrance. Here you will have complete privacy, especially after we install the big curtains Camilla is producing. In front of the house we have about 3-4 parking spaces for our guests. In the back you'll find our garden you'll share with us, if we are in Papenwohld - otherwise it will be all yours. A big terrace for a breakfast in the sun, a fireplace, a BBQ, an herb garden you are welcome to use with care and our vegetable garden you may use with our instructions only. We are both working freelance. Jörn in music and other art forms, Camilla as a fashion designer and tailor. For many years we were both living and working abroad. Jörn, who was born in Klein Wittensee moved between Berlin, LA, NYC and Papenwohld, Camilla who is originally from the very south of Germany travelled for three years in Asia, Africa, the United States, the Middle East and big parts of Europe, stayed for three years in Israel/Palestine and moved back to Germany in 2016, where the two of us met. So we are both very worldly people, we've been both hosted a lot by others. So for now we really enjoy having our place here and being able to host ourselves. For the first time in a decade we love being in one place long enough to create and express ourselves in other and new ways, than we had the chance until now. Creating a vegetable garden and of course the remodelling of the house was a big part of it this past year. During your stay, we will be living as direct neighbours (don’t worry we are really friendly folks). We love our space with the Garden we created, but are happy to share our little paradise when it happens with mutual respect and care. Jörn's parents live in the main house next door and will be around to welcome you, whenever we are both travelling for work or fun. Papenwohld is located in the middle of nature. The silence and the fresh air are so inviting to relax and ground yourself. The European long distance path E1 is passing by right behind the house and in general the area is perfect for walks, bike rides and other nature activities. The surrounding lakes are great for fishing, sailing and windsurfing. Some interesting and inspiring attractions in the area include: Hochseilgarten Altenholz, Wikinger Erlebnis Dorf Haithabu, Nordart, Landestheater Schleswig Holstein, Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival, Jazz Baltica und Folk Baltica, Kielkanal / Nord-Osteekanal, Kieler Woche, Hansestadt Hamburg, There are hourly buses from Klein Wittensee (15-20 minute walk) that get you to Rendsburg and Eckernförde where you can find connections to regional and long-distance trains. Shuttle services may be possible. If you do have to choose to come with more then 3 cars you can park safely on the street in front of the farm. The farm is not active anymore but we have a few horses next door, so sometimes there is a light horse sense in the air, or you can hear them next door doing their thing. Besides our own dog, there is also very friendly dog Pepe, who lives with Jörn's parents in the main house of the farm, as well as a few cats that live around the farm. We do everything possible to keep your space clean of animal hair, but please decide for yourself if you want to stay with us if you are allergic.
