The pennine way is close to the cottage together with many other walks of varying degrees of difficulty. The most picturesque of these perhaps being those around the Dovestone triple reservoirs. The area boasts many popular events throughout the year including The Whit Walks, Yanks weekend, Rushcart, Party the in the Park, Marsden Jazz Festival, Diggle Blues Festival and of course the world famous Saddleworth Brass Band competition. There are many others too numerous to mention here. The area is popular with sports enthusiasts with horse riding, golf, swimming and many other sports facilities nearby. We usually say that because we are about a mile and a half from the nearest village, a car is essential. However there is an hourly bus service between Manchester and Huddersfield which runs within reasonable walking distance of the accommodation. There are also a number of local reliable taxi services available too. The nearest rail station is at Greenfield some three miles away.
