Stylishly decorated, spacious house in pretty Vale of the White Horse village, southern edge of the Cotswolds. Superbly, thoughtfully equipped but homely. Surrounded by stunning views to the Ridgeway. Many country and pub walks, village with pubs/deli/farm shop/groceries 1.5 miles away. Open log fire. One 5' king (en suite shower), one 4'6" double, plus comfy foldout single bed. Family bathroom. Well equipped luxury kitchen. Dogs welcome, secure garden. Friendly host nearby. Good broadband. Beautifully decorated, airy rooms downstairs. Off the entrance hall, a bright and sunny drawing room by day becomes cosy at night with a large comfy sofa and two squishy leather armchairs for relaxing in front of the log fire. TV with Freeview, DVD player and lots of DVDs. Dining room with good-sized table and four chairs. Superb selection of maps and local interest, walking and guide books. Stunning and very well equipped kitchen with pretty garden outlook. Range cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, Nespresso machine and cafetière. Cookery basics included. Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Spacious, family marble bathroom downstairs. Upstairs, beautiful master bedroom (comfortable king size bed) and en suite shower room, plus second double bedroom. Additional comfy fold-out single bed available which can go anywhere (including the second bedroom - this is quite cosy but fun for 3 kids). Pretty, securely fenced, front and back cottage gardens. Sunny front garden with views of the village and National Trust countryside, table and chairs to watch the village go by with your morning coffee. Gas BBQ, table and four chairs plus two traditional deckchairs in the private walled back garden. In an area populated with cosy cottages, Highlands is almost unique with its Regency architecture and high ceilings, yet it manages to be welcoming, cosy and homely. After staying in many Airbnb's, I have tried to include all the touches and facilities that I've either loved or wished for in this much-loved house. There will be a tea-time treat for your arrival and everything you need for a pot of tea or proper cup of coffee. More basic groceries and treats are available via an honesty box. Furnishings, decorations are antique and vintage, bedding is high thread count hotel quality with high quality duvets and pillows, towels are thick and fluffy and there are Molton Brown toiletries for you to use. There is a lovely picnic hamper and rug for sunny days (plus a map of my favourite picnic spots to try) and torches for evening strolls as there's no street lighting out here! Four legged friends are welcome (with their own treats). There is a fluffy blanket to use as a dog bed if needed, and a hose and an old towel for after lovely muddy walks (Bourton muddy puddles are legendary in the canine world!) For rainy days and winter evenings, loads of books all over the house of all sorts, more books and DVDs available in the old village phone box/library. Selection of games for all ages and a few toys for younger guests. Sonos sound system. Anything else you need or want, we can lend you - from kites to sledges! Babysitting and doggy day/evening care available. Situated in a pretty Cotswold stone hamlet close to the Ridgeway, lovely country pubs within 2-3 miles' walk across fields and footpaths. Explore unique prehistoric landscapes, unspoilt open countryside and the River Thames, Bronze Age Uffington White Horse and Wayland's Smithy. For a contrast after some rural relaxation, Oxford is about half an hour away for sights, culture and shopping (with a handy coach service) and Bath is about an hour. Frequent train service to London Paddington in under an hour from Swindon station (7 miles away). I live a couple of minutes' walk away. I really enjoy meeting guests and sharing my local knowledge to help you get the most out of your stay. I'm always on the lookout for new hidden picnic spots to recommend! Lockbox self check-in available and I understand that some guests prefer peace and privacy. A perfect place to combine the best of the English countryside plus cultural possibilities of the cities of Oxford and Bath. Huge range of walks from the front door. Good Food/Pub Guide/Alistair Sawday gastropub 45 mins walk away. Farm shop, great deli/cafe, two grocery stores, pubs and takeaway in next village 30 mins walk away. A car would be ideal for exploring the area and getting around most easily but some buses are available and there is an excellent local taxi service. 7 miles to Swindon rail station with excellent service to London in less than an hour, and to the rest of south-west England. Amazing cycling and mountain biking territory. Well behaved dogs welcome, downstairs only. Secure front and back gardens. Stairgate available to help canines/toddlers stay in the right place! Long stays often available - please enquire.
