Beautiful Cottage 90mins from Paris
Our much loved second home is a cozy farm cottage set in l’Aritoire, a small hamlet in the village of La Madeleine Bouvet. It is located in the charming picturesque countryside of le Perche with its rolling hills. The property has a huge garden and an adjoining orchard and is adjacent to a working goat farm whose owner runs an organic, handmade goats milk soap and cosmétique business. The location offers a peaceful, relaxing and rejuvenating stay suitable for families and friends. This loved second home is where we spent much time as a family when our children were young. We always found it peaceful and relaxing and still do when we visit - whether it is waking up to the birds chirping, taking an evening stroll along the country lane, making the breakfast ‘bread run’ to the local bakery for fresh croissants and baguettes or checking out the local markets and ‘brocantes’ - weekend specialty markets. We have owned this house for over 25 years and it holds many beautiful memories. It has been fully renovated over the years and is very family and child friendly. The house has books, games and DVD’s. There are 2 large bedrooms upstairs - a spacious master bedroom with a large king size bed and a child's room off the master bedroom with a single bed complete with books and toys. The second upstairs bedroom also has a king size bed and also a convertible futon. There is a cot/crib available as well. The upstairs master bathroom has a shower ( with steam option ) and a spa bath, wc and sink. The washing machine is also located there. There is a small desk area outside of the child’s room. Downstairs, there is a smaller third bedroom and the separate second bathroom with shower, sink and wc. In the main living room there is a cozy fireplace with a small woodshed by the front door outside. Also in the living room is a new 40 inch television which offers French Internet TV from Orange, as well as fast Orange Internet WiFi. The modern fully renovated open kitchen and dining room has a table which seats 8 and also has a high chair for a small child. This area opens through french doors to a spacious terrace with an outdoor dining set. The garden is large with trees, grass, sun and shade. There is a barbecue. The orchard which belongs to the property has over 90 assorted organic fruit trees including cherries, plums, apples, apricots and pears which you are welcome to pick for your own consumption while you are there. Use of the whole house and associated grounds A warm and friendly speaking property manager will be your contact while you are there. She and her family with 2 children under ten years old live on the farm directly adjacent to the property. The house is situated in the Le Perche Region which is a unique conservation area where you can find ancient cider apple orchards and pastures, Percheron heavy horses, meandering rivers, rolling hills amidst beautiful countryside and numerous fortified manors and chateaux. You can explore rural markets, charming villages, wonderful restaurants, fabulous walking, cycling and horse riding within nearby vicinity. There are many local events and sites of interest in this picturesque, rural yet dynamic region just 90 minutes from Paris. Regular trains run from Paris Montparnasse to the region taking on average 80 minutes to this area of le Perche. The train route is south west from Paris to Versailles, Chartres and and Le Mans. The 3 local stops are the large towns of La Loupe (10-15 minutes away), Nogent le Rotrou ( 20-25 minutes away) and Bretoncelles, which is the closest small village about 5 minutes away. Chartres and Le Mans are both about an hours drive from the house. Our house is situated roughly between them. Nogent le Rotrou is larger town approximately a 20 minute drive away where there is a wonderful recreational facility with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and bowling. When visiting from UK we usually take the Eurostar to Paris and then hire a car at Gare Du Nord - or flying from the US to Charles De Gaulle, hire a car there; it’s typically a 2 hour drive from these pick up points. Other driving options coming from UK are the EuroTunnel Dover to Calais and then drive down which takes about 4 hours or Ferries to Calais, Le Harve or Caen and drive down from there. There are many local amenities such as horse riding, pools, tennis, and bowling available.
