Rooms with a View
A self-contained annexe, with its own kitchen and bathroom plus a separate bedroom on an open-plan mezzanine floor above, accessible via a spiral staircase. There is a large comfortable sofa bed in the living room which can accommodate two adults. The open-plan nature of the layout make the annexe most suitable to a couple or family of 3, although we've had groups of four friends stay there quite happily. Leading off the living room are a private bathroom and kitchen. Our place is ideally situated between Cromford village and Wirksworth town so there are a number of good restaurants and pubs within walking distance. We have a large garden which you're welcome to spend time in, and you can help yourself to whatever produce is in season... currently plums, salad leaves, spinach and tomatoes (apples and pears on their way...)! There's a covered area at the bottom of the garden with tables and chairs and a home-made pizza oven (we are professional pizza chefs with a mobile business in a horsebox!). Your own living room, kitchen, mezzanine and private bathroom, plus a patio. Access to back garden via the patio. We will either be on hand next door or a phone call away. There will always be people to help out in an emergency! Cromford Matlock Bath 1 mile; Matlock 3 miles; Bakewell 10 miles. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and surrounded by wooded hills and cliffs, the village of Cromford lies just one mile from the vibrant spa town of Matlock Bath and three miles from Matlock. Famous for its connections with Sir Richard Arkwright and the cotton trade, and often referred to as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. Today, Cromford offers a selection of quality pubs, shops and cafés, as well as Arkwright’s Cromford Mill and canal, a world heritage site. The area boasts an abundance of attractions such as Gulliver's Kingdom, the nearby Peak District Mining Museum and splendid Chatsworth House. Visitors can take a ride on the Heights of Abraham cable car and take in the views in style, whilst the more active are catered for with plentiful walking around the Derwent Valley and the White Peak, as well as rock climbing and also with cycling opportunities at Carsington Water and the High Peak, Monsal and Tissington Cycle Trails. We are located on the edge of the Peak District just ten minutes walk from the High Peak Trail, so perfect for walking and cycling holidays. Other attractions are the Derwent River and Cromford Canal, both navigable by kayaks and canoes which can be hired locally, as well as some excellent food and pubs all within walking distance at Cromford or Wirksworth. Cromford also has a world renowned second-hand bookshop, Scarthin's. Favourite local haunts are Parky's Restaurant in Cromford for evening meals, the Greyhound pub for meals, the Boat on Scarthins and Le Mistral, a fabulous French Restaurant in Wirksworth. Wirksworth is a bus or bike ride away and offers a number of tourist attractions including a heritage centre. The town hosts a major arts festival in September (unfortunately cancelled for 2020). Its high street, like that of nearby Belper, comprised almost entirely of independent retail outlets including a cinema (although there is a very good Co-op) and both towns are really worth a visit. Matlock has a Sainsburys and some very good cafes and restaurants. There are buses to Derby, Matlock Bath and Matlock from the end of the street, and a handy train station in Cromford village for access to Derby, London and Nottingham. One of the best of the UK trails for walking and cycling, the High Peak Trail, is located ten minutes walk from the property accessible via a footpath. villages of Cromford and Wirksworth are both nearby and have good local shops, pubs and restaurants. The kitchen has a microwave and two-ring ceramic hob and a mini-oven. There's also a washing machine you're welcome to use and a drier down the garden in a shed. The TV is controlled with a Fire Stick and I've tuned in the UK terrestrial channels. Netflix, Prime etc are available but you'll need to log in to your own accounts. Please log out before you leave to avoid others potentially running up a bill for you (our guests are generally honest and are out walking or pubbing most of the time so don't worry too much but I might forget to check!) Please feel free to use the covered space with fire pit at the bottom of the garden. If you're extra tall or have mobility issues, please let us know in advance as you may prefer to sleep downstairs on the sofa bed rather than access the mezzanine, which has limited head room as the ceiling slopes, and a somewhat challenging spiral staircase. We have two dogs, a collie and a little cockapoo. They're very friendly and if you open the door when they're about you'll get at least one in with you!
