Enjoy a historic stay at our C16 Grade II Manor.
Mendham Lodge is a Grade II listed C16 Manor House set in wooded grounds of 2 acres, which includes a cart lodge with garage, a walled garden with greenhouse , a parterre garden, a daffodil glade, lawn, loggia, herb garden and a large pond. There is a field gate with views to the water meadows beyond. The Manor is of significant historic interest, with twisted star capped chimneys, Adam fireplace, a panelled room, Tudor Rose carved staircase and fireplace with stone mullions from the Priory. Mendham Lodge is a rambling , quirky family house. It retains many original features like open fireplaces even in the bedrooms. The floors are tiled or have wide oak boards with rugs. The kitchen has a pantry and larder and is unfitted in the main, although there is both an Aga and electric hob and oven for cooking. There is a boot room, utility room and indoor log room. The interior is of gently aging country style. The furnishings have been collected and passed down through the family. Despite the downstairs being laid out as traditional rooms, the space is open and has good flow which is ideal for large groups. The large hall/family room with a log burner and hard wood blocked floor, would make an excellent room for conferences, meetings, lectures, training or workshops. The overall finish is a relaxed space where families and dogs are welcome. Guests have unlimited access to the whole of the property. Contactable by phone or text or email. The Manor is set in a valley with hills to one side and water meadows behind, with footpaths to explore. The Alfred Munnings Public House and Shotford farm shop and tearoom are within walking distance, as are the local church, Mendham All Saints and the village center. The area is very popular with walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers. Mendham is a small village just outside the market town of Harleston with post office , doctors surgery, supermarket, garage and most amenities needed. Diss, Bungay, Beccles and Halesworth are about 15 minutes drive away as alternatives. The property is not close to public transport. There is a local small upholstery unit to the right of the drive which is private.
