Characterful studio apartment in quiet location
Situated in Elsecar, a semi-rural setting between Barnsley and Sheffield, this attractive conservation village was once the ‘engine room’ of one of Yorkshire’s hidden gems, Wentworth Woodhouse. Our private, self-contained, industrial themed space, Foundry7, is suitable for work, days out or just to relax. Featuring underfloor heating, WiFi, a mezzanine bedroom, full kitchen, shower room and a seating area with a large TV, there is a shared garden available for sunny days and great local pubs. Wentworth Woodhouse is a magnificent stately home with the longest façade of any house in England. Set in 87 acres of gardens with extensive parkland views and public footpaths, there are links to royalty, politics and the Kennedys. A range of tours are available with significant reductions for National Trust members, coupled with open access to the cafe and shop. Not far away are two National Trust properties – Wentworth Castle Gardens and Nostell Priory and Parkland, in addition to the world renowned Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The five Elsecar pubs (some with good food) are within easy walking distance. A few minutes away, Elsecar Heritage Centre features a small history exhibition, a variety of individual craft workshops, cafes and retail outlets with an award winning park, canalside walk and access to the Trans-Pennine Trail. If you are cycling the Trans-Pennine, we can provide secure cycle storage and washing facilities for both you and your bike! There are local shops (including a fantastic farm shop), and supermarkets close by and for those seeking retail therapy, Meadowhall Shopping Centre is a short drive or train ride. Unfortunately, Foundry7 (F7) is not suitable for those with mobility issues as the shower room is on the ground floor, the kitchen and seating area on the first floor and the bedroom is accessed via a spiral staircase on the mezzanine (2nd) floor. There is a table for working or dining and a sofa bed for additional guests. Access to a washing machine and drier are available on request. Sorry, no dogs and we suggest, due to the stairs, no children under 12. As we live in the adjoining house we hope to be around to welcome guests, but if we are not there when you arrive, there is a key safe by the door which provides easy access to the apartment. Elsecar is a traditional Yorkshire village with Yorkshire folk! Friendly and direct, but warm and helpful. The five pubs have different characteristics but are all pretty good at keeping their beer – otherwise there would be a riot! Feel free to ask us where to go and what to see – we have lived here over 30 years and are be happy to advise you. We have off-road parking. M1 junction 36 is only 3 miles away and there is reasonable access to the A1, M62 and M18 as well. Foundry7 is only a 5 minute walk from the railway station, where you can travel direct to the lively cities of Sheffield, Leeds and Huddersfield and stations in between. There are frequent buses between Elsecar and Barnsley centre. Even with Shanks pony (i.e. walking) , there is plenty to see, but if you are struggling, most of the village is on a level.
