This is Latvian wood house, traditional builded. Nice and silent environment and menu wild animals. Historical center of Ligatne Paper Mill village This place is so beautiful due to sandstone cliff exposures on the banks of Ligatne River and Gauja River. Inhabitants of Ligatne remember tales about Katriniezis rock, Gudu cliffs, Jumpraviezis rock and, certainly, about Gauja – its dark pits, islands, rafters… In the valley of Ligatne River there are artificial caves – cellars excellent at storage of vegetables and chosen as winter quarters by bats. 8 species of bats are met in Ligatne. Ligatne is the richest in caves place in Latvia. Ferry crossing over the Gauja River The ferry over the Gauja river is the only crossing of this type in the Baltic States. The ferry is made of 2 boats fastened together, on which there is a plank layer. A steel cable stretched across the river does not allow the ferry to tide downstream, and it moves from one bank to the other by the force of stream. Once there were 3 bridges over the Gauja. After the Second World War, when bridges were destroyed, Ligatne Paper Mill created Ligatne ferry crossing to let workers of the Paper Mill to come to work from Pargauja. Ligatne Nature Trails Ligatne Nature Trails of Gauja NP were established in 1975 in order to acquaint visitors with nature, wild mammal species living in Latvia, nature diversity and environmental protection. On the banks of the Gauja River, in the area rich in wooded glens more than 5 km long trails are laid where you can observe wild animals and birds characteristic for the fauna of Latvia. You need 2-3h on average for a visit. Secret Soviet bunker A very secret site of Soviet times code-named “Boarding House” Nine meters under the ground there is a well-equipped bunker with a total area of more than 2000 square meters, whose secrecy grading was removed only in 2003. This was one of the most strategically important places in Soviet Latvia in case of a nuclear war. This is a powerful autonomous self-sustaining structure with all necessary and high-end (for that time) equipment. All authentic underground furnishings have been retained! Woodcraft Museum Woodcraft Museum has been arranged as a historic workshop, where most of the tools exhibited are in working order. It is situated in the Vienkoči Park and it possible to learn there how the craftsmen of the past used to make household items both for landlords and other people. It is possible to learn about nuances of producing the log-ware and other wooden objects from the Stone Age till nowadays. A special attention has been dedicated to the process of producing log-boats. Workshops are organized during thematic events. The exhibition is constantly being enriched and developed. Here it is possible to learn about the development of woodcraft from the Stone Age till nowadays. The basis of the museum's workshop are the working machines, run via transmission axis with a help of the engines and belts. The overall style of arrangement in the workshop corresponds to that of late 19th and early 20th Ct.
