We live near the cottage and are readily available to help with any queries during your stay. We also offer a babysitting service for young families. The quiet country village of Hawstead is an idyllic setting for any getaway. We are set in the picturesque Suffolk countryside, boasting beautiful views and wonderful walking and cycling routes with a fantastic cafe and bike shop at the centre of the village. Nearby villages offer many great local country pubs and restaurants, additional to those in the town itself. Bury St. Edmunds is a charming market town, bustling with a range of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants suitable for all occasions. Market days are Wednesday and Saturday, when the centre becomes filled with stalls trading fresh local produce and assorted goods. In addition, once a year our Christmas market takes place in late November which attracts stalls and shoppers from all over the country. Located within the town are many places of interest, such as the Greene King Brewery which produces award-winning beers and offers interesting tours and supplies local pubs like Nutshell (the smallest pub in Britain). The impressive history of our town is apparent throughout; simply wandering through the range of unique beautiful buildings in the medieval grid; visiting the museums, theatre or art galleries; or exploring the stunning cathedral, gardens and abbey ruins at the heart of the town makes a wonderful day out. Hawstead village is only 3 miles from historic Bury St. Edmunds, set in the beautiful Suffolk countryside with wonderful cycle and walking routes. Bury St. Edmunds train station is located 10 minutes away, with fantastic links to Cambridge, London, Ely and many nearby places of interest. The Rabbit Hutch is situated within the diverse region of East Anglia, offering a variety of places of interest to visit. Nearby villages, such as Ickworth and Long Melford, host wonderfully preserved historic properties and stunning gardens and grounds which are fantastic to explore all year round. Further afield, travelling to Cambridge via car or train is easy and convenient and offers a magnificent range of museums and galleries, as well as the medieval university colleges, fantastic shopping and punting experience along the river. The famous Newmarket Racecourse is just 20 minutes away from the town by car, and offers numerous events throughout the year. Thetford forest is also easily accessible, a setting for great walks and cycle hire and offering exciting 'Go Ape' tree top and Segway adventures. Also within the forest, the Elveden estate is the perfect place to visit for a unique farm shop and restaurant experience and hosts a range of driving and shooting experiences for all abilities. In addition, if you are staying with us during a festive period we are happy to 'dress' the house for the Christmas or other celebrations at your request.
