Rokeby Cottage in Hathersage
A traditional Derbyshire cottage situated on an elevated quiet lane in the village of Hathersage. Rokeby Cottage has recently been refurbished to provide a comfortable relaxing stay any time of the year. Nestled within the Hope Valley, Hathersage offers exceptional walks from the front door ranging from circular 3 mile strolls to all-day hikes. Rokeby Cottage is a 5 minute walk from the village centre which hosts a great range of excellent pubs, cafes and shops. A split level cottage retaining many original features recently sympathetically refurbished to provide the highest levels of comfort. Low ceilings and steep stairs are a feature of the property and add to its charm and character. However, the aspect of the cottage provides light and a feeling of openness throughout. Excellent WIFI throughout together with Netflix. Bifold doors in the kitchen provide beautiful views of the Hope Valley as does the south-facing terrace equipped with all the facilities for outside dining and relaxation. The cottage is a tranquil haven within which to spend your time in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Hathersage is a wonderful village, with great facilities with all you will need for your stay. There are a number of nice places to eat in the village, all within a 5-10 minute stroll from Rokeby Cottage. Cafes, pubs, Indian restaurants, fish and chips and village bakery are available as well as the famous Hathersage Outdoor Swimming Pool (heated and open all year). There is also a great village shop/post office (open until 10pm everyday), bakery, pharmacy and a handful of excellent outdoor shops. Many visitors come to Hathersage to visit the churchyard and the grave of “Little John”. Whether or not the large grave beneath the yew trees in the south-west of the churchyard is that of Robin Hood's lieutenant will probably always be open to debate. Well known landmarks are also in easy walking distance/travel from the cottage. Stanage Edge is walkable from the front door (30 minute walk). The start of the famous walking track The Pennine Way is in the village of Edale (4 miles away) and the stately homes of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are both a 15 minute drive from the cottage. Charlotte Bronte visited Hathersage in 1845 to stay with a friend; she was inspired by the area and wrote Jane Eyre soon afterwards. During her stay Charlotte visited North Lees Hall, which was to be the inspiration for Thornfield Hall, home of Edward Rochester, in the novel Jane Eyre. There are many picturesque walks from the front door and footpaths lead you to neighbouring villages, a great way of exploring the local area. The train station in the village is a 10 minute walk from the cottage and runs from Sheffield to Manchester. The trains run regularly in both directions and stop at many other villages in the Peak District. The train is a great way of travelling to different local areas on day trips. There is also a good bus service in the village that regularly links Hathersage with Sheffield and neighbouring villages. The bus stop is a 5 minute walk from the cottage. Walking and cycling to other local villages is also easy with many excellent footpaths and bridleways that provide scenic routes. There are a number of walking guides/maps in the cottage to help you explore the local area. Cottage is traditional farm workers dwelling, so has low ceilings and steep stairs. May not suit people who are tall or who have mobility problems. Ground floor: lounge and kitchen First floor: 2 bedrooms and bathroom
