Our family has put a lot of time & energy into renovating this charming 19th-century terraced house in Amble. Our love of art and books has made this home a very unique space. We have left the art and many of our books in situ for our guests to discover and enjoy during their stay. Amble is a small seaside town which has a rich fishing and mining heritage which has recently become a popular destination to explore the coast, castles and countryside of Northumberland. The living room is the centre of the house with contemporary art from South Korea, the North East and the Borders. There is also a large collection of books which cover topics from East Africa, art, history, agronomy and novels. The dining room features Ercol and G Plan furniture with cynotypes by my father. The kitchen is through the dining room it has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge and small upright freezer. There is a back door to the small courtyard which has a table and chairs for four people. Upstairs you find the bathroom with bath and separate shower. Two bedrooms both with king-sized beds. There is a desk and chair on the landing which can be used as a study space. The whole house has an original and contemporary feel. We have painted flooring throughout with a diverse collection of rugs in each room. We recommend you bring slippers. It is a warm house with a modern combi boiler running the gas central heating system. We are local to the area so if you have any specific questions please do ask. Amble is a friendly North East seaside town with a thriving high street and some great value restaurants. I was brought up in Northumberland and Amble is now my retreat. I have watched the town grow over the years and I cannot be happier to call it home. The Amble folk are lovely and always happy to help, remember everyone says - ‘Alright?’ - to each other. Northumberland has some of the most beautiful and deserted beaches in the country and an abundance of historic castles. Inland you have the Cheviots and Simonside Hills which are wonderful to walk in and all over the county you will find many charming pubs so you will not be short of things to do. There are many varied places to eat: from award winning fish and chips, Italian gelato and excellent coffee, to atmospheric jazzy bistros and a decent local curry house. Queen Street is full of small independent locally-owned shops that offer everything from fresh local produce to a classic ironmongers. Local attractions within a 20-minute car drive include: Woodhorn Mining Museum, Low Hauxley Nature Reserve, the stunning Druridge Bay, Warkworth Castle, picturesque Alnmouth and the market town of Alnwick (including the Castle and Gardens). As this is rural north Northumberland public transport is a little sparse but it does exist still. The nearest railway station is Alnmouth with regular trains going to London Kings Cross or Edinburgh and Glasgow; a taxi from the train station to Amble is £10. There is a local bus service that runs through Amble either going south to Newcastle via Morpeth, or North to Berwick upon Tweed via Alnmouth and Alnwick. There is also a bus service to Ashington. Further details can be found on Arriva buses website or download their App. Cars can be hired in Ashington where you can get some great deals from Enterprise. A taxi from Amble to Ashington would be around £20. Bike hire and cycle tours are available from Pedal Power Cycling Ltd on the Amble Industrial Estate. Puffin Cruises do a trip around Coquet Island. From Seahouses you can visit the Farne Islands during the summer season. Book in advance with Billy Shiel Local Taxis: Ample Taxis J L Taxis K Cabs
