Restored farmhouse with beautiful views, privacy and comfort

Halfway between the vineyards of Bergerac and Cahors, our beautifully restored former farmhouse now offers all modern comfort for up to six persons. In the main house, the large living room (11 x 5.5m.) has a large open fireplace at one end (surrounded by a large L-shaped sofa and easy chair) and the kitchen area at the other. With a six-burner stove and two ovens, you will have enough space to cook for your family and friends (if that's your hobby. After all, you ARE on holiday ;)). The wooden table sits ten. Between both ends of the room, there's enough square meters of blonde oak floor to make you want to dance. The excellent stereo system helps here... Alternatively, if the weather permits, you can go and cook and eat in the outside kitchen, under the roof of what once was the tobacco barn. Or use the barbecue... An open staircase leads to the second floor, with wc, an open bathroom (very large shower, two sinks) and the master bedroom (7 x 5.5m., double bed). Next to the main house are the scullery and next, two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom (two sinks, shower and wc). Both bedrooms have their own entrance and terrace. All three bedrooms have their own hot water supply, so there's always enough for everybody. One children's bed is available. Our house has been restored under the strict rules in France on building or renovating in the vicinity of historic buildings. In this case the tiny 12th/13th century church in the village (population 65), at 500m. On the inside however, we have made sure modern standards are met. Furniture, decoration and (especially) lighting create an atmosphere which is sadly missing in most holiday rentals, where old, worn furniture and inadequate lighting seem the norm. Satellite-tv (including BBC, and on a 42" calibrated plasma) and WiFi are available (although connection speed is low). Music is delivered by a good stereo system and Sonos (all our music cd’s have been ripped to the hard disc next to the desk and are available through the Sonos system, which you can operate by downloading the free Sonos S1 app to your smartphone or handheld device). And of course there are enough reading lights to just sit and read a book in comfort. However, you will probably spend most of your time outside. Across the lawn on the courtyard and next to the outside kitchen, the former pigsty and henhouse are now toolshed and gardenshed. Next to those, there's parking space in the old stables for two cars. This spacious house is ideal for families, or for (up to) three couples. Dordogne, with its moderate climate and rolling landscape of fields and forests, is perfect for cycling. Climbs may be steep (but shortish) but you can make it relatively easier for yourself if you stay in the valleys. It's about 10 miles to the river Dordogne, with its numerous beaches and canoe rentals. Two golf courses (18 and 9 holes) are even closer. For fresh croissants and other food, the nearest shops and restaurants are only 6 km away in one of the most beautiful medieval fortified villages (Monpazier, built in the 13th century on behalf of Edward l) France has to offer. Back in the house for the night, you will experience the silence that descends over the land when the sun sets. When the stars come out, the absence of streetlights in the vicinity means you will see an abundance of stars. And with a full moon, it's amazing how much it lights up the night, casting dark shadows around the house. In the almost absolute silence of the night, you may hear owls calling from the woods, but the absence of noise will make you sleep deeper than usual. You'll wake up refreshed, ready for another blissful day in the sun!
