ANCIENT RURAL (no meat) SUFFOLK COASTAL COTTAGE
This ancient cottage lies on the edge of a village in a lovely rural setting with generous gardens on three sides beside a copse, along side a bridal path and fronting a designated 'quiet lane' with plenty of off street parking. It sleeps four adults and two children comfortably, is a well kept home from home, with a well equipped (NO MEAT) kitchen, relaxing and roomy reception rooms, a bathroom and shower room. All the rooms are light, airy and recently decorated with beautiful rural views. The oldest parts of the cottage date back to the sixteenth century and we have modernised with a light touch, trying to maintain the feel of its history. It is comfortably furnished as a home and in keeping with it's atmosphere of age and origins. All rooms are generously proportioned and benefit from the beautiful rural views of local farm land and associated wild life. The cottage has gardens on three sides. A large South-West facing rear terrace and garden with table and chairs for outdoor dining and a smaller side seating area and garden; I grow herbs around the rear terrace. On entering the front door, you arrive into a porch area where we leave outdoor shoes, boots and coats to help keep farm debris out of the cottage. The inner hall leads into: the living area, the second twin bedded room and the shower room. While the kitchen is well equipped, we have chosen to have a dishwasher rather than a washing machine in the restricted available space. The kitchen leads directly into the living room (with a door), and into the dining area which benefits from a door to the main terrace and large rear garden. All the rooms are of generous proportions, comfortably furnished, light and airy, many are double aspect, and recently decorated. The large master bedroom and children's room are both on the first floor along with the bathroom, while the twin bedded room is on the ground floor next to the shower room. The dining room has table and chairs that seat six comfortably. The sitting room has several arm chairs and a small sofa centred around the open fire grate. There's a music system and a TV which can play DVD's. This is a family home in an ancient labourer's cottage, it is comfortable but does not aspire to ultra-modern boutique hotel standards nor high tech facilities. Like many ancient buildings ceiling and door lentil heights are lower than in more modern homes and some bedroom floors slope a bit. The garden areas are generous and benefit from a sunny aspect along with shady areas provided by mature trees. There's a aura of peace, as the cottage is situated next to a copse and along a Coastal Suffolk designated as a 'Quiet Lane'. I rent out the cottage on a strictly self catering basis and you will have the whole cottage and its gardens to yourself. Parking is between the side garden and copse, on a grassed slope with plenty of space for several cars. The porch area provides plenty of space to hang outdoor wear: coat hooks/hangers and seats for changing footwear. In each bedroom cupboard there's some space to hang clothes and in the master bedroom two chests of draws are for visitors. In the kitchen I clear one shelf in each of the food cupboards for visitors use, but please remember I don't allow any meat on the premises. In the shed opposite the kitchen there are extra garden chairs, a barbecue and pegs for the washing line. I would hope to always meet and greet my guests, but occasionally this isn't possible so my friend from along the lane will be at hand instead. The cottage is situated next to a copse on an official Suffolk Coastal 'quiet lane', leading on to a bridal path, so the clip clop of passing horses is not unusual. It is surrounded by farmland creating beautiful views and much observable wild life. Although on the edge of a village it's walking distance to a good village pub and charming ancient church, and benefits from being an amazing location for walkers, cyclists, art and music enthusiasts. Coastal Suffolk has always been and continues to be a popular area for artists. There's a strong tradition of music in the area with Snape Maltings at its heart. The county is perfect for walking and cycling with gently undulating inclines, retaining the scenery made famous by Constable. The coastal towns are a treat for visitors: Aldeburgh, Southwold, Orford, .. each one characterful in its own particular way (Aldeburgh is a short 10 mile drive). I've created a 'visitor's book' which included local walks and other points of interests that might be useful for new visitors to the area. Being situated on the edge of a village and surrounded by farmland gives a sense of remoteness, however within four miles there are several attractive towns with associated amenities, Framlingham for example with a weekly market. There's a huge variety of dining out experiences from some of the best fish and chips in the UK, many very good gastro pubs with beautiful gardens and a scattering of top class excellent restaurants; something to please everyone. Although there is a train service to Saxmundham (4 miles away), the most convenient way to get about is by road, a car or bike. The cottage is a traditional ancient, rural Suffolk cottage with some added modern comforts (though not too modern!). The sitting room is heavily beamed with an open fire and upstairs in the oldest portion of the building the floors slope a bit. Unusually for such an old building, the rooms are light and have beautiful rural views from every window. The master bedroom has a five foot double bed, made up with a duvet; it's a spacious room and able to accommodate a cot. The first floor 'children's room' has narrower (but full length) two foot six twin beds also made up with duvets; both these rooms are next to the family bathroom. The downstairs bedroom has full sized (three foot) twin beds made up with blankets with easy access to the shower room. Being situated on the village's outskirts presents a feeling of remoteness providing ample opportunity for country walks and spotting all the wild life, however, a good choice of supermarkets is only four miles away. There's is also a large selection of local beaches and popular tourist venues nearby.
