POGLERS: peaceful, stylish North Norfolk hideaway
Set back from the main road and not overlooked, Poglers is one of four brick, flint and stone terraced cottages, built around 1805. It has a shared driveway with its own parking space. This newly renovated two bed cottage was previously owned by the late, great comedy writer David Croft – famous for co-creating many British comedy shows including, Are You Being Served, ‘Allo ‘Allo, Hi De Hi and the enduring classic, Dad’s Army. It's perfectly situated for exploring all North Norfolk has to offer Modern in look and comfort. Plenty of light and while minimal in style, the cottage retains a cottage feel. Skeins of geese can often be seen from the newly built rear sitting room with its domed skylight, giving masses of natural light throughout the day. The kitchen/dining room overlooks a small enclosed, south facing front garden – a sun trap between brunch and teatime. The bedrooms are light and bright but remnants of wooden beams, a vaulted ceiling and some acute angles give a sense of bygone days. As the bedrooms are on the first floor the guests must be able to climb stairs There is private parking Guests will be met on arrival and given the keys. Your hosts will be available on email or phone whenever required throughout your stay, but guests will be left to enjoy the house and explore the area themselves. Located in the heart of Brancaster village, Poglers is adjacent to the re-developed village hall, a five-acre, dog-free playing field (and all-weather court for tennis and football), a children’s playground, Bar71, Gurney’s at Brancaster Stores; five minutes' stroll to The Ship Hotel (bar and restaurant) and a fifteen- to twenty-minute walk along the Marsh Path to the stupendous Brancaster Beach. Brancaster and North Norfolk are places of outstanding natural beauty. Magnificent beaches: Brancaster, Holkham, Snettisham to name a few; Titchwell Reserve is down the road and Cley Nature Reserve is a forty-minute drive away. There is artisan shopping available at Burnham Market, Drove Orchards, Holt and Wells. The entire area is also exceptional for photographers, bird-lovers and walkers, hikers and dogs. The Country estates of Holkham, Houghton Hall and Sandringham are within easy driving distance - with Houghton noted for major art exhibitions. And of course, there are activities including seal-watching, cycling, windsurfing, golf, to say nothing of gastropubs and Michelin dining alongside cafés, wine merchants and roadside vendors offering fresh mussels, crab and samphire in season. A car is advisable and Poglers has its own, adjacent parking space.
