The big Mill - house above the sea.
Our old family-house between the windmills is situated on the narrowest point of the island, overlooking the sea both north and south, surrounded by nothing but nature. The house has everything needed for everyday life, and fits 2-4 persons. The house between the windmills have been the home of my husband's family for generations. It is placed on a magnificent spot where the island narrows, enabling a view to the sea on both sides of the house. On the back-side the sea lies deep under the terrace, offering a breathtaking panorama. On the front-side your eyes follow the islands sun burnt fields all the way down to the sea, where the sun sets in the evening. There is a small beach directly under the house, accessible only by foot. For the main beach, Angali, you can stop the bus that passes on the main road, a little away from the house, or - if you enjoy walking - you can follow the footpath, that will take you there in about 35 minutes. The nearest shops are in Chora, the main village on the island - you can walk there in 15 minutes, or you can stop the bus. We lived in the house for 10 years - but when the kids grew older, they wanted to be nearer to the 'city' and their friends, and we moved to Chora. Thus having an empty house, we decided to share this marvelous spot with others. We have separated the house in 3 independent 'flats' - this being the first of them. 'The big Mill' contains a large kitchen/living-room, and one separate bedroom. It has a fully equipped kitchen, and bathroom with a washing machine. 4 persons can be accommodated in the house . The houses are independent units - meaning that they are clean and ready when you book in, you have extra sheets and towels if you want to change, but we do not come by every day to clean. It is your house for the time you stay there. The final cleaning, when you leave, is ours. Everything. We love to get to know our guests - to share interrests and opinions - and informations on the island - over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. But, it has to take place in our restaurant, because we are tied to it the whole summer. We wil take you to the house when you arrive, and pick you up when you leave - but we will not be around during your stay. If you have any kind of problems you will always be able to find us at the restaurant, and I will provide you with my mobile-nr before you arrive. Our neighbourhood is fields and rocks and sea and goats and donkeys...I love it! Not everybody does... There are 3 busses on the island - one for the harbor, one for the beach, and one for the other village. The two of them passes on the mainroad a little away from the house, in the high season about once every hour, in the outseasons not so often. We have one taxi...and he doesn't want to go all the way to the house, because the road is to bad. It is possible to rent a car - quite expencive though - and there is space to park it close to the house. But generally - the island is very small, you can practically reach everything by foot - if you like walking, that is. Even though I brought up my own kids in the house, I wouldn't recommend it for familys with toddlers...The slope on the backside of the house is a bit scary, you would have to be alert all the time (unless, of course, you choose not to use the veranda on that side).
