The Barn, Goosehill Hall, Castleton
One of four refurbished stone-built cottages in the grounds of a 17thC manor house, overlooking the hills and fields of the Peaks. Combining modern fittings (incl. high speed wi-fi and heating from renewables) with original timbers, the cottages are minutes away from the many facilities in Castleton. The Barn has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. a very large dining and kitchen area and a private garden. It is an ideal base when rented with other Goosehill Hall Holiday Cottages. Our largest cottage, the Barn combines views in three directions, old roof beams and timbers and its own private garden. The cottage enjoys underfloor heating (upstairs and down), high speed wifi, easily operated blinds for the large front windows when you need some privacy and secure cycle storage. Downstairs the cottage includes: - an entrance hall, with plenty of space for boots and coats and a downstairs cloakroom. - a dining area with a table that can easily seat sixteen. - a lounge area with three sofas and two armchairs, and views in three directions through historic niche windows and large glass filled cart openings. Upstairs the most notable features are the old roof timbers. Some timbers are visible in each bedroom; the locations of the beams dictate the quirky room sizing. Features include - a large master bedroom with a king size bed and views towards the Great Ridge. Access to the en-suite facilities is via some steps – up one side of an old structural bean and down the other side. - a larger twin room with views up the nearest hillside and towards Winnats pass. - a second and smaller twin room with two full size single beds but no additional storage in the room. There is a wardrobe on the landing. The cottage has a private garden with views towards Mam Tor in one direction and Win Hill in the other and, It is adjacent to a field which the local farmer uses for sheep and, at the right time of year, lambs. The garden has a large seating area with a table that can seat 16 or more. The ideal place for a sunny breakfast or evening drinks. Guests have the cottage to themselves. The cottage has its own secure cycle storage. The owners or a member of staff will be on site, or readily accessible via phone. Castleton is a village in the heart of the Peak District, famous for show caverns and Peveril Castle. For the more active there is easy access to much walking and cycling. For the self caterer there are two village stores, one of which also bakes bread. The village also boasts six pubs, a restaurant and various coffee shops. Castleton has an hourly bus service to Sheffield. There is a railway station at Hope (Derbyshire), 2.5 miles from Castleton. Penny's Cars is a local taxi firm who can provide transport if needed. We have conducted a full risk assessment in the light of the Coronavirus pandemic. We have amended the cleaning protocol accordingly to include all necessary sanitising, using properly accredited cleaning products. In order to minimise the risk of virus transmission we have removed some high risk items from the cottages and we have changed some of the ways in which we will do things. We ask you to help us, particularly at check-in and before check-out.
