Large room w bath in quiet neighborhood
Enjoy a large, bright bedroom with queen bed and private bath. Guests have the whole second floor; several have called it "a private suite." Free parking, air-conditioning. Located in close-in St. Matthews, a quiet tree-lined area with easy access to parks, downtown, major tourist attractions and eateries. Enjoy a spacious air-conditioned second floor all to yourself, an 18 x 18' bedroom with queen bed and private full bath. The room has its own air cond. thermostat (guest can control). There is Wi-Fi, and a TV with Netflix and local channels, no cable. The bed is a sleep number bed, so mattress can be adjusted for firmness. Coffee maker and tea kettle in the room. Tea and coffee provided. Guests may use my kitchen to prepare breakfast, warm up a pizza, light cooking. You may also use the washer-dryer if you don't mind going down to a 1946 (unfinished) basement. Iron and board available. There are lots of towels, a small hair dryer and "generic" shampoo in the bathroom. Located in close-in St. Matthews, a quiet tree-lined area 5 easy miles from the heart of the city, a 2-block walk to the bus stop serving downtown. There are several restaurants, coffee shops, pharmacies and pubs less than a mile away. A good area for walks, close to parks. Louisville offers many attractions: historic homes such as Locust Grove and Farmington; the Kentucky Derby, Muhammad Ali, Frazier History, and Speed Art Museums; the KY Center for the Arts, and the new YUM! arena. There are several bourbon distilleries, and Louisville Slugger for baseball fans. The Big Four Bridge is a pedestrian walkway to Indiana. There is a lovely ramp to the bridge with super views of downtown and the Ohio River esp at sunset. Boutique and bistro-lined Frankfort Avenue, the hip Bardstown Road and NULU districts are a short drive away. Guests often comment on how well situated the house is. Three hospitals are within 2 miles (Baptist East, Norton, and the VA). The Presbyterian and Baptist seminaries, and multiple churches are nearby. I'm an energetic retired educator. I myself like to travel, so I'm participating in Airbnb in order to supplement my own travel budget. I'm a people-person so I look forward to welcoming visitors, and I have had the privilege of hosting wonderful guests from around the world. Guests may park in my driveway. During the day you may also park on the street, but not overnight. Once reservation is confirmed, I will give instructions re access with the key. You will enter into my living room, turn right immediately and go up the stairs. Private room and bath are on second floor. When you have the key, you may come and go as you wish. Usually brief chats--depending on the guest's schedule and mine. I also speak French --and will soon get around to translating this listing. Quiet, tree-lined streets. Nice neighbors. Good area for walks. Easy access to downtown via city streets, also easy routes to expressways. Guests may park on street during day, but please pull into my driveway overnite. Our public transit company is TARC. There is decent service to my area during the day--not so great in the evening. A cab ride from the Airport to my house is usually about $25 plus tip. Uber & Lyft operate in Louisville. My rate varies from $40 to $50 per night Sunday thru Friday, typically $55 for Saturday nights, more during the Kentucky Derby (the first Sat. in May). Airbnb adds its booking fee and required city & state hospitality taxes. I have recently added a $5 cleaning fee. If you give me 24 hrs notice, there is no cancellation fee. I don't serve breakfast, but there's a coffee pot in the room & an electric tea kettle. I keep juice, milk, yogurt, cereal, bread and fruit on hand. Guests may use my kitchen for light cooking. I supply all linens including sheets, towels. There are extra blankets and pillows in the closet in the room.
