Fun private apartment with snacks! Clean deal!
This is a private apartment on the 3rd floor of my restored 1905 home in one of Detroit's hippest neighborhoods. Private entrance. Big bedroom, full kitchen and bathroom and large eating nook and living room. Can manage 4 people but 3 more comfortably. It was originally the servants quarters but I just use it for friends and family visiting. Location! $7 uber to downtown. Bike anywhere walk to Belle Isle, Marrow and Detroit Vegan Soul. Pillow top mattress that’s as comfortable as the Westin. Historic home restored on a stunning block 200 yards from 2 bus lines and easy ride to downtown ($7). Walkable to bars and restaurants and close to Belle Isle. Street parking and chill owner. It was originally the servants quarters 100 years ago but now I use it as an apartment that I let my friends and family use and I Airbnb when it's available. This is the extra in-laws quarters in my house and has a cool vibe. Long term guests welcome. Very comfy bath towels and amenities. The couch in the living room is a fold out bed, suitable for one adult or 2 children. Ultra high speed WiFi. Dogs welcome! Private entrance, free laundry, Street parking, and I am happy to help you plan a fantastic, safe, memorable experience in the city of Detroit. I'm a nice host and happy to help you plan your trip. I'm not a professional Airbnb guy. I'm listing it to help people find an affordable place for you and three of your buddies in the West Village. The apartment is a third floor walk up. It’s really not suitable for people who require wheelchairs, or people who are likely to suffer a fall. The stairs are not abnormally narrow but certainly not as wide as a staircase would be in a new house. Also, they are more steep than you would normally see in a new office or a new house. If you’re on crutches, this might not be the best apartment for you to rent. It’s an old house. Every once in a while, I’ll find a 115 year-old piece of wood that’s starting to splinter or maybe a floor tack is exposed. As long as you are familiar with the quirkiness of old homes, you’ll be fine. I’m an easy going host. Welcome to Detroit. We might not see each other but I'm happy to meet you and help you in any way that I can. I live in the main part of the house, and you'll be in the apartment on the third floor with your own private entrance. Laundry in the basement is the only space shared. But if you play an instrument you’re welcome to borrow any of the hundreds I have around the house :) The West Village is one of the most desirable walkable neighborhoods in Detroit. Do some research online. Craft Work is our signature restaurant and bar and easy walk from the house. New hip restaurant Marrow is 3 blocks away. I travel a lot so I’m not always home to be an on-site host but the neighbors are very friendly and I’m always available via text in case I’m traveling during your stay. I moved into the eclectic and diverse neighborhood in 2004 and, despite some gentrification, it is retaining its charm. We have beautiful tree-lined streets. In the spring time, there are a few days where the pollen count can be hot. If you have an usually high allergies, please contact me and I will let you know what types of trees may cause unusual odors or allergies. Lyft & Uber is usually seven dollars from my house to the downtown festivals and sporting events. Taxis are usually standing near the Sunoco on Jefferson at Van Dyke (often the taxi meter will be a higher fare than using a ride sharing app). Belle Isle Bridge is across Jefferson down a few blocks. There are two public buses that come every 10-15 minutes about 200 yards from the house ($2). Even though this is in the city it's a very very quiet block, will hear freighters on the Detroit River and a lot of birds. I'm happy to help you navigate Detroit and welcome you to our neighborhood. I'm not a professional Airbnb host. This is the guest quarters in my home and it's a bit quirky. It has colorful charm but it's not the Ritz. Let me know if you have any "must have" requirements so I can let you know if the place will meet your expectations. Coffee, tea, snacks and Faygo are all provided. N64 with Mario Kart and the first three seasons of arrested development on DVD provided with my compliments as well as dozens of films in both dvd and VHS for those who long for the days of old on a 55inch plasma Panasonic. Also provided are random board games, global family fun games, and cards and ultra high speed WiFi internet. I usually will only be able to host guests have two or three good reviews on Airbnb. If you don’t have any reviews yet, contact me at least a few days before you’d like to check in so we can chat. Thanks! It’s a historic home. Radiator heat from the bottom 2 floors tend to warm the apartment but there’s space heaters available for when it’s really cold out. There is no central AC but plenty of fans and window AC units. Sometimes the window air-conditioning units will already be set up installed in the windows, and sometimes they will be stored in the closet. Please note, because Michigan temperatures change so frequently, guests will often take the AC units out easily then put them back in - it’s a simple process. If you are not comfortable with rearranging furniture or window air-conditioning units yourself, this might not be the best apartment for you. As with the fold out couch, guests will have the freedom to rearrange and configure the apartment as if it was their own home. Before you check out, please just move everything back the way you found it. Yet another reason I don’t charge a cleaning fee. Just treat it like it is your own home. The apartment is the in-laws suite (formally known as maid and servants quarters) in my home. You’ll have full privacy but try to keep it somewhat quiet at night as there may be others who sleep downstairs. The best way to do this is to remove your shoes before you walk up the stairs. Without shoes, nearly no noise will travel thru the house. If you require total silence for sleeping, I provide ear plugs, and I can also assist you in setting up a free white nice app on a smart device. If you’re not familiar with Michigan, sometimes, though seldom, you will find the random ladybug, stinkbug, or boxelder. There will be no insects in the apartment which have the ability to bite you :) Even the stinkbug only eats fruit, not people. There are two houseplants which requires very little maintenance. If you would like for me to remove them prior to your arrival, just let me know. Even though I do my best to clean the apartment. After the prior guests has already cleaned, there could still be some dog hairs hiding from previous guests. If you have severe dog allergies, message me first before booking. I don’t charge a cleaning fee so please scrub and sanitize up before you leave. Thanks! Any smoking or loss of a key will result in the loss of your security deposit. Other than that I’m totally flexible and cool.
