Luxury waterfront glamping whole place to yourself
The Reed Bed is a romantic hideaway for two: your own, personal glampsite, set in a secluded wild meadow, with private rowboat for picnics and pootles on the water. A summer pop-up, our luxury bell tent with king-size bed and log burning stove has its own private bathroom (hot shower/flushing loo) and outdoor kitchen hidden in towering bamboo. Pick plums from the orchard, toast marshmallows under the stars, or set off on an adventure across the fields at this idyllic Constable Country retreat. Wake up to the sounds of our resident mallards and moorhens, splashing happily on what’s thought to be the remains of an ancient manor-house moat. The five-metre bell tent is pitched amongst the reeds, with an outdoor seating area with firepit/BBQ looking out over the water, and your own private rowing boat. Inside you’ll find a king-size bed, with luxury mattress and extra-cosy duvet, plus a log-burning stove to keep you toasty, and a selection of books and games. Your exclusive camp has a private bathroom with flushing toilet and hot shower built into a thicket of towering bamboo. Here you’ll also find outdoor kitchen facilities including a fridge, electric hobs, all the pots and pans you’ll need and phone-charging points. Also on-site is our cottage, and “The Suffolk Haybarn” – our other Airbnb property. We offer contactless check in but we’re on hand if you need us. Find us sitting peacefully among rolling farmland on the edge of Constable Country, moments from some of Suffolk’s most iconic sights, including Sutton Hoo, featured on Netflix’s The Dig. Iconic Suffolk sights nearby: Halfway between historic Hadleigh and the county town of Ipswich, the Reed Bed is perfectly positioned to explore Constable Country. Flatford Mill and the picturesque riverside scenes that inspired numerous paintings, including the Hay Wain, are just a 10 minute drive away through the Vale of Dedham – a designated Area of Natural Beauty that has remained unchanged for centuries. Also within easy reach are the drunken half-timbered houses of Lavenham (including the 14th-century cottage that featured as Harry Potter’s birthplace in the films); the ancient wool town of Long Melford, with its Tudor Mansions; and the Anglo-Saxon burial site of Sutton Hoo. Closer to home, historic Hadleigh is the nearest town (10 min drive) with its medieval Guildhall, independent shops, river walk and excellent pubs and restaurants. And from The Reed Bed, countless footpaths crisscross the surrounding countryside. We can provide maps of wonderful local walks. Hintlesham, with its pub and manor house hotel offering afternoon teas and spa treatments, is just a 10 minute stroll across the fields. Some other sights within striking distance include • Woodbridge • Framlingham Castle • Jimmy’s Farm • Bury St Edmunds • Sudbury • Paycocke’s House • Dedham Vale Vineyard • Pin Mill • Felixstowe • Helmingham Hall • Snape Maltings • Shingle Street • Orford Ness • Alton Water • Aldeburgh • Rendlesham Forest
