Our home is a beautiful 18th Century Town House, with a walled garden, in the ancient city of Winchester. Ideally situated for walking throughout the city with its magnificent 900 yr old Cathedral, William the Conqueror's Great Hall, King Arthur's Round table, Winchester College, England's oldest Public school. 1hr by train from London, 1hr from Heathrow, close to the New Forest, the South Downs, the South Coast, Jane Austen's home. Our house is 4 mins walk from the station. We are very close to everything you would want to see in Winchester and due to our central location in the old city you can walk to everything, so there is no need to get in the car! It is a much loved, friendly city with lots going on all the time. Street markets, cultural festivals, professional theatre, arts style 2-screen cinema, street music, concerts, December Christmas Market (80+ stalls) and Christmas Ice Rink, bi-monthly Farmers Market (largest in the country) to name just some of the attractions. Historical architecture, such as Winchester Cathedral, Winchester College school, Wolvesey's Castle (known as the Bishop's Palace), The Great Hall housing King Arthur's Round Table, Queen Eleanor's Garden, King Arthur's Statue, the Westgate and Kingsgate ancient city gates. First class restaurants covering all tastes, including The Ivy, Rick Stein, Raymond Blanc, Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall, Hotel du Vin, Loch Fyne, Cote Brasserie, Wagamama, DMTY, Pizza Express, Zizzi, ASK, Indian/NepaleseThai/Chinese/Pan Asian. A vibrant city voted in 2016 as the best place to live in England! The main bathroom is shared with ourselves, but we get up before you! The bathroom is kept clean and tidy and there's a large bathtub and excellent shower. We provide breakfast between 8 - 9.30am. Lovely patio area in the garden for breakfast on a warm day. We will give you a front door key so you can come and go as you want. One of us would be here to greet you and can be reasonably flexible on check-in times, if you let us know when to expect you. We have an on-street parking permit for visitors and there is a large carpark around the corner at a minimum charge if the on-street parking is full. Our house is right in the heart of the City, so you can walk to all the famous places such as the Cathedral, King Arthur's Round Table, Winchester College, Pilgrim's School, Abbey Gardens, St. Giles's Hill, St.Catherine's Hill, the Water Meadows to the the Abbey of St Cross, with its famous Alms Houses and Church and where Jane Austen lived at the end of her life; a memorial to her is in Winchester Cathedral. Ample buses for the city and local villages and to Southampton, etc. Very good transport links. Ample parking in the City with Park & Ride in 3 locations on the edge of the city.
