Riverside Retreat
Nearly a century old, children call it “The Witches House” and we haven't changed it's magic. A mezzanine provides the main bedroom, a little window overlooks the lawns. Downstairs is a log burning stove, a sofa/double bed, and all facilities needed. French doors open to a patio over the river and woodland views. 40 minutes from London and you're in another world. A note about the Coronavirus crisis: We have implemented a minimum 48h gap between bookings to ensure your (and our) safety. Very comfortable king-size bed in the mezzanine (ladder access), and the sofa converts to a king-size bed too. Bed linen and towels are provided. Mains water and electricity, electric hob, fridge with small freezer compartment, microwave oven, kettle, toaster and all kitchen utensils in place. First basket of firewood included. Loo and shower room is en-suite. Up to two extra adults or children are permitted to stay overnight in their own tent nearby for the supplementary charge of £15 per person per night. You are welcome to wander around the gardens during your stay, but please respect the residents privacy (as they will respect yours). There are several public footpaths which run through our farm including the Kingfisher Way which is a long distance path. Someone is always around to assist if needed. Radwell is a little oasis of countryside close to Baldock, Letchworth and Stotfold with easy access to the A1(M). We've lived here all our lives, we think it's a special place and try to keep it nice. Getting here: Go to the ducks at the end of Radwell Lane (satnav: SG75ES); further instructions are in the house manual. By train: Take a taxi for about £10 from Letchworth Garden City station (about 30 Min from London Kings Cross) , or alternatively, we are about a 30 minute walk from the train station in Baldock (about 35 min from London Kings Cross). By bus: There are plenty of buses to Letchworth and Baldock, especially worth considering if you are coming from Luton or Heathrow airports. Bear in mind that there are no taxis in Baldock, but there is usually always one at Letchworth rail station. In extremis we will collect you from Baldock but we are very reluctant to do this while the COVID-19 crisis continues. We are about 10 minutes walk from Baldock services (J10 A1M) which has M&S, McDonalds, KFC Etc. The parking place is about 100m from the house across grass which can sometimes get a bit wet and muddy. A wheelbarrow is provided to carry your stuff. The house has a good mobile communications signal with all networks which is almost certainly much faster than any wifi we could offer. There is no automatic central heating in the house; the wood burning stove is easy to light and maintain and has a nice window to see the fire, however, it is the only way of heating the space and if it's freezing outside it must be kept going full blast to keep the place nice and warm. Of course we explain how to do this when you arrive but if you are not that confident with fires then we would be happy to host you at a warmer time of year. This is a 100 year old house in the woods; however much we try to keep it sparkling clean you may still find a small spider somewhere. If you have a problem with this sort of thing then you may be more comfortable elsewhere. A 7 kW tethered Type 2 (Mennekes) EV charging point is available to guests at £0.30 / kWh.
