Kokkinos Pirgos is a small beachresort in the south of Crete, between Matala (15 kilometer distance) and Agia Galini (10 kilometer distance), and about three kilometers from Timbaki, a larger village with all amenities like supermarkets, shops, banks and a supermarket, and once a week on a Friday there is a market where you can buy local products. There are a couple of hotels and rooms for rent in Kokkinos Pirgos, and there are a many nice tavernas and cafes. The beach of Kokkinos Pirgos with sand and some pebbles is stretching a few kilometres, and it's definitely much more quiet than other beaches of this area. The walk to Agia Galini along the coast takes about 1,5 hours, towards Kalamaki about 2,5 hours along the beach with almost no people. In Kokkinos Pirgos there is also a small harbour and in front of the village lie the small Paximadia islands. You can come by public bus, but it is much better to have a car The delight in finding and collecting pretty shells, or coming across small sea creatures in little pools of water, is not reserved for children or occasional visitors. You know that there is no sound in the world better than the lapping of waves on the beach And no smell better than the salty sea air. You will discover that solutions to most problems can be found by sitting on the beach and staring out over the water. Similarly, if you’re in need of some inspiration, you will find it by digging your toes in the sand.
