Come stay in our beautiful, late 19th Century country home situated in the center of the small hamlet of Malden Bridge. Surrounded by perennial gardens, green lawns and shade trees. Our Home in Malden Bridge is a beautiful historic house located in the small hamlet of Malden Bridge, located between the Hudson River and the Berkshire Mountains. The area is full of history, and the homes and old structures of the area convey this in charm and interest. The house has 2 bedrooms located upstairs. Each bedroom has a queen bed and a private full bathroom. Downstairs is a more formal living room and a very comfortable den with TV. There is a spacious sunroom with French doors and large windows giving access to the spacious back yard complete with bluestone patio and swimming pool. The kitchen is fully stocked: gas stove and oven, microwave, wine cooler, refrigerator, dishwasher. There are dishes, glasses, pots and pans and other kitchen appliances like blender, coffee maker, and toaster oven. There is a large dining table in the sunroom. On the patio in the garden there is an umbrella table and seating for six. The patio and garden also have lounge chairs with pillows for sunbathing and relaxing around the small, round, in-ground salt-filter pool. The pool is surrounded by a bluestone patio and lush flower beds. The front of the house boasts a porch under the columns where there is a small table and seating. The lawns are spacious and offer a lovely view into the surrounding woods and neighboring orchard. It is a quiet and private place to spend time. The whole house except for a closet storage space, some cabinets and the barn and small attached cottage. The small cottage is used by the owner and the barn/garage stores tools and gardening implements used by the owner. I welcome questions, concerns and inquires. Texting is usually the easiest and quickest way to reach me. Feel free to ask for recommendations, advice or directions. The hamlet of Malden Bridge is in the heart of Columbia County hunt country. At specific times of the year it is not uncommon to see horses with riders in red jackets in the fields, woods and along the roads. The neighborhood in which the house is located is a small cluster of old and mostly historic houses and buildings. Most of these homes were built by mill owners who ran the mills that were built on the Kinderhook River. The old stone foundations of these mills can still be seen standing in the river which flows through Malden Bridge. The only commercial entity in Malden Bridge is the post office, which is in one of the old houses overlooking the river. The river is located only a stones throw from our house. Guests can easily walk to stand on the bridge and enjoy the rushing water below. The town of Old Chatham is only about 5 miles away and has a country store that also serves breakfast and lunch and on select weekends, dinner. There is also a full restaurant bar in Old Chatham that serves lunch and dinner as well. About 13 miles the other direction is the town of Chatham that boasts a number of good restaurants and shops and a historic movie theatre that shows movies every evening and matinees over the weekend. The city of Albany is within 20 miles and the historic town of Hudson is 25 miles away. Both easy day trips for museums, music, restaurants and sightseeing. In the winter, visit Jimmy Peak for downhill skiing or one of numerous areas for cross country skiing all within an hours drive. If you like hiking, there is the opportunity to plan for strenuous all-day hikes or relaxing strolls along country roads. Columbia County boasts numerous land conservancies that offer trails allowing for birdwatching and picnics. There is so much to see and experience in this area of the world that you won't have enough time! There is no public transportation. The home has a driveway and sufficient parking. The house is old. The stairs are steep.
