The Cart Lodge is a self-contained building at Grove Barn, a private property in quiet Suffolk countryside entered by a gravelled drive. Water meadows are opposite the entrance. The red brick, oak framed structure with lapped wood cladding was built in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) The refitted, fully equipped, apartment is accessed via an external stair. There is a large reserved garden area with garden table and BBQ. There’s daily wildlife interest; deer, rabbits, ducks, abundant bird life. The recently refurbished apartment has a large open plan kitchen, living and dining area, two double bedrooms and a shower/wet room. All rooms, with garden views, are under a pitched roof dramatically increasing the sense of space, oak cross beams add to the historic background. There is underfloor heating throughout plus: TV, wi-fi, washer/dryer, ironing board/iron, etc. The nearest train station is at Diss. Local public transport is extremely limited so personal transport, car, bike, etc. is strongly advised. There is ample car parking at Grove Barn for guests The owners live immediately adjacent to the Cart Lodge at Grove Barn, a mid 18th century oak framed conversion. You will have complete privacy but the owners will normally be close at hand for an introductory tour or, if not, will give advice for key access. Guidance notes for the use of the apartment and local interest, places to visit, etc. are provided. The property is 4 miles from Eye, the closest local shopping facility (PO, Chemist, Bakery, Butcher, Deli’, Greengrocer, Cocoa Mama Chocolaterie) and an important medieval castle. Diss is 8 miles distant with an attractive historic town centre, supermarkets and other shopping facilities, a Friday market. Trains from Diss to London take 1.5 hrs and to Norwich 25 min’s. Thornham Walks on the Henniker Estate, with 12 miles of waymarked footpaths, is 1 mile away where there are also artisan shops, a gallery and café, organic fresh food, a picnic area and parking. Good pub food is available 5-10 minutes walk away at the Four Horseshoes, a beautiful old thatched Suffolk pub. Very good restaurants, both within a 5 minute car ride, are the Walnut Tree (vegetarian) and The Bull Auberge. Further away are: The Leaping Hare Restaurant at Wykham Vineyards, 11 miles. The Fox and Goose, Fressingfield, 14 miles. Framlingham Earl. 15 miles eastward. Attractive village with nice independent shops, cafes, and an impressive castle. There’s an exceptional Italian restaurant, the Watson and Walpole. Bury St Edmunds, 18 miles. The closest market town with good food shops, restaurants, independent cinema and Theatre Royal. Market days, Thursday and Saturday. Bungay. 21 miles. A small market town with shopping, a trendy high street and the ruined Bigod Castle. Fen Farm Dairy with a herd of Montbeliarde cows produces excellent raw milk, skyr, butter and Baron Bigot, a brie style cheese. The awarded Flint Vineyard is about 3 miles before Bungay on the A143. Sutton Hoo. 26 miles. Site of the famous Anglo-Saxon burial ground recently featured in the Netflix film ‘The Dig’. The artefacts found are in the British Museum but there is still much to see and it’s a great day out. The East coast, ±30 miles, has wonderful destinations such at Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Southwold and Walberswick all with good restaurants, cafes, pubs, shops. Aldeburgh Fish and Chips is one of the best in the UK but be prepared to queue! The nearest railway station (to Norwich and London Liverpool St) is at Diss however personal transport for travel anywhere in the area is strongly recommended, local public transport facilities are extremely limited. Guests will have complete privacy but the owner(s) will normally be at hand for an introductory tour or, if not, will give advice for key access. The owners live at Grove Barn and will do their best to answer any further questions guests may have during a stay.
