Cotswold family-style room nr Woodstock & Witney
Convenient for Wilderness, Blenheim and Cornbury. It is close to Woodstock (4 miles), Witney, Burford, Chipping Norton and Oxford. Charlbury railway station is 2 miles away, where a regular service takes you to London. This is a comfortable dual aspect studio room in a house situated in an attractive village with a good pub. Room has double bed, flat screen tv, DVD player, kettle and books. Suitable for solo adventurers, cyclists & business travellers. A second room is sometimes available. The base price (week days) is £35 per room, with a £15 surcharge if the room is to be shared. The room is a dual aspect studio room which looks out onto my garden at the back, and the village lane and countryside beyond at the front. It has a new, comfortable double bed, clean sheets and bedding (though not ironed, time is too short!). There's a flat screen Samsung tv with separate DVD player (I have a large collection of DVDs available, as I used to teach film studies, beside English literature), well stocked bookshelves, 3 of my son-in-law's original paintings on the wall (his work having been accepted at the R.A. summer exhibition) - and also a kettle. You will have the use of the upstairs bathroom and shower; I use the shower and bathroom downstairs when there are guests, so the upstairs bathroom, which is opposite the guest room, is yours. You may use the kitchen at breakfast only. Breakfast is basically a simple affair with coffee, tea, milk, Greek style yoghurt, muesli, various breads for toasting, marmalade, jams and marmite readily available. Other meals: there are a number of friendly pubs in the local area, all of which serve good food. Five minutes' walk away, the Plough in Finstock is deservedly popular, but be aware that it doesn’t serve food on Sunday night or Mondays. Further info here: (URL HIDDEN) (URL HIDDEN) I'll be there to meet'n'greet, and also help out at breakfast. I am also very happy to offer help and advice about local things to do and see. However I'm pretty busy, especially in term time, and am likely to be out and about quite a lot. Finstock is a pretty but unpretentious village set round a hill in the Cotswolds. My house is a 1920s semi which is five minutes' walk from the local pub, the Plough, which is friendly and which serves good food. The Village Shop is also about 5 minutes away in the opposite direction. There are plenty of interesting and pretty walks nearby. There is parking on the verge opposite or on the road nearby. We are about 30 mins from Oxford, 10 mins from Woodstock or Witney, and 50 mins from Stratford-on-Avon. There's a reasonable local bus service and the rail station at Charlbury is only 2 miles away and takes you to London, Paddington, in about an hour. You may hear me playing guitar or singing sometimes, though that usually happens well away from the room you'll be using. (I perform occasionally with friends at local folk/blues clubs.) I'm quite a keen walker, so can recommend good local routes .
