Roo's Retreat

Roo's Retreat is an idyllic place to stay. A superb rural retreat in the peace and quiet of the beautiful Kentish countryside while close enough to visit the historic City of Canterbury, market town of Faversham and the delights of Whitstable. Easy links from Ashford International Station and the coast. We are in the midst of a huge expanse of footpaths and byways with excellent views and great local pubs. Ideal for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, cyclists and walkers. Roo's Retreat is set at the bottom of our garden with your own parking space and private garden . Until 2018 it stabled my horse Roo, but we have now turned it into a stylish and comfortable rural retreat Roo's Retreat has twin beds, that can be separated or positioned together with its own bathroom and small kitchenette area (kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave). Wake up to the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Cereals and bread will be supplied for the first mornings breakfast. Coffee and tea are provided. There is a small TV that can be linked to a laptop however please note it is NOT a stand alone TV. Kent is full of stunning places to suit every taste. Canterbury (walled city with cathedral), Whitstable (sea side town with famous oyster beds) and Faversham (ancient market town with old ship yard and meandering creek) to name a few, all within a 30 minute drive. Chilham is our local beautiful medieval village with a couple of good pubs, a tea room and an antique shop. Leeds Castle only half an hours drive is an iconic visitor attraction. We can also cater for two additional guests in the guest room within our house which is listed with AirBnB called Country Cottage, twin room with own bathroom. You will have sole access to Roo's Retreat along with a spacious garden area and picnic table to enjoy the stunning countryside. There is a a secure facility to store bikes if required. We try to meet our guests on arrival and provide some insight into the local area including pubs, restaurants, walks and cycle routes. Equally we are happy to leave our guests to their own devices if that is their preference. Shottenden is nestled in the Kent Downs, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The local villages and surrounding areas provide a tranquil, colourful and soulful place to stay. Twenty minutes to the nearest historic town with medieval villages, market towns and historic cities on the doorstep. Roo’s Retreat is in the countryside and so a car is recommended. However we have a few pubs within easy walking distance. The nearest stations are Chilham and Selling (3.5 miles) and Faversham (5 miles) which go into Ashford, Canterbury, London and to the coast. There is room to securely store your bikes in a locked shed. If you are staying one night we suggest you park in the car park adjacent to the house. If you are staying longer please park initially in the car park park adjacent to the house and and we can then direct you how to park adjacent to Roo's Retreat. Please note we have a NO smoking policy which applies to anywhere on the property including both inside and outside areas.
