Quintessential South Downs Cottage
Sitting right at the foot of the South Downs, this cottage is spacious, bright, clean & airy. Stunning views surround this tranquil W.Sussex village with easy access to Cowdray Polo, Goodwood, West Wittering & of course The South Downs Way. A vast selection of pubs & restaurants can be found within easy reach, not forgetting The Park House Hotel with its luxurious Spa facilities - too tempting! Bicycles, cots, board games, camp fires and even supper can be provided. Just ask! This cottage is fresh clean and bright although certainly rustic. If you are wanting extreme modern then don’t come here! The two bedrooms are located upstairs and the sitting room, dining room kitchen and bathroom are downstairs. Please note that the bathroom is rustic with the actual bath being mini size so definitely does not cater for a long soak! The cottage itself is situated in the drive to our family home. So although not totally isolated, it’s a beautiful spot and we definitely don’t have any neighbours! There are many walks from the back door including being able to get to he top of the South Downs / South Downs Way in just 30 minutes. A steep walk up and you feel as though you are on top of the world! If you are wanting to BBQ or just dine Alfresco style we can give you access to our Orchard which will feel private and peaceful. Please ask in advance to borrow our BBQ and wood burners. There is lots to forage nearby subject to the correct season; blackberries, Sloes, nettles, Elderflower etc. Let me know if this is of interest and I can point you in the right direction. Similarly, you are welcome to collect fresh eggs from our chickens in the morning and help yourself to our apple, plum and pear trees which produce mid Summer. It is likely that I will be very much around during your stay. So I can be on tap to answer any questions you have. My family consisting of a husband, three young children and six chickens (!) will also be around so i hope that our buzz and coming and going won’t disturb you too much. We can be loud! Midhurst is the nearest town which is host to an array of restaurants, pubs, shops and general tinkering! Cowdray Farm Shop and cafe is great for brunch and local produce. On a Tuesday and Friday you can even get local fresh fish which is second to none. But be warned none of the above is cheap! Durleighmarsh Farm is an excellent seasonal pick your own. Wander through the strawberry fields, blueberry bushes and raspberry bushes collecting produce as you go. If that isn’t enough there is a cafe on site too. Don’t miss out on the fairy door which is enough to capture every child’s imagination! Petworth Park is great for easy walking and scenic views. Easy for little legs and a duck pond to add interest. Try climbing to the top of the hill and rolling down! Petworth itself has an array of Antique shops, cafes so good for general pottering. West Wittering - THE best beach in the world! A little less local but worth the trip rain or shine. Peak season traffic can be dodgy so leave early before the crowds hit! Take a picnic in the Summer or low season venture to Billy’s Cafe in Bracklesham Bay. Remember, blustery walks can be better than hot days in the sun! We are pretty rural with minimal public transport near by so you need to be either a keen cyclist or have your own mode of transport. Please note that the washing machine, tumble dryer and iron plus board are all in the main house and can be used if required. The TV has Sky The internet connection is pretty good considering we are out in the sticks but do bear in mind that we are not in Central London and can sometimes lose connection. But we do have an on-site geek (my husband!) who can sort most problems.
