Full of rustic charm, Tom's Lodge is a 2 bedroom, stone-built cottage, nestled in the pretty village of Kniveton. Children and pets welcome. It is the perfect location from which to explore all that the picturesque Peak District has to offer: walking, cycling and 5 minutes drive from Carsington Water, with its many water activities. The Red Lion pub, serving interesting beers and wines and excellent food, is a short walk away. Changeover Mon and Fri but please enquire as we are flexible. The cottage has a homely, cosy character to it, with decorative beamed ceilings and walls that aren't at right angles! The living space has a lounge area at one end and a dining area at the other. The lounge is lovely to snuggle up in to watch the smart TV, with a glass of wine, when the wood burning stove is lit. An ample supply of logs is provided for this purpose. For times when the fire isn't lit, electric storage heaters ensure you remain warm all year round. The fitted kitchen has traditional pine units, an induction hob, microwave, washing machine and plenty of storage. There is an integrated fridge with freezer compartment but no dishwasher. It is well equipped for guests who enjoy cooking and has child friendly dining-ware. Also on the ground floor is a cute little bathroom with a pressure shower over the bath, a sink and WC. Upstairs, there are two quaint bedrooms (one double and one twin) which share an additional upstairs WC. Bedroom 1 has a king sized double bed with a large, built-in cupboard for storage of clothes, suitcases etc. Bedroom 2 has two single beds and a large pine wardrobe. Throughout the property, there is a wonderful selection of original artwork by local artist Angus Stokes. This is for sale, should you fall in love with a painting! The well stocked, cottage garden is on the other side of the quiet lane from the property and has a lovely seating area with a table and four chairs underneath a silver birch tree. A BBQ is available for guests to use (bring your own charcoal and matches!). There is also a bench which enjoys the sun all day, for you to relax with your morning coffee or late afternoon tipple! There are two private parking spaces for average sized cars opposite the cottage, across the lane. One is between the garden and the garage, the other is tucked directly in front of the garage. Large vehicles may need to be parked around the corner on the wider road. The garage is not generally accessible to guests but if you wish to store bikes please contact the host to request this. We live locally and will be available by telephone should you need us for anything at all. Kniveton is a quiet, rural village. It is an attractive place with many of the properties being built from the local limestone. The cottage is on a small, quiet lane, in the heart of the village, but away from the main road. In addition to the lovely country pub, The Red Lion, Kniveton has a pretty little church, celebrated for its tower and font, both dating back to the 13th Century. There are so many local walks to choose from. You can follow public footpaths across the rolling hills, dales and beside streams. Many of the walks start from the front door. Dovedale is one of the most beautiful areas of the Peak District, with its world famous stepping stones, and is only a short drive away, as is Black Rocks Country Park. Carsington Water is a 5 minute drive away and offers a wealth of outdoor activities, such as sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding and kayaking. There is cycle hire available, with a great cycle path around the reservoir. There is also a visitor centre, a pleasant cafe, various shops and a large children's play area which is good for all ages. For thrill seekers, the huge Alton Towers Resort is a theme park about 20 miles from the cottage. With easy access to the Peak District, you will never be short of things to do. The town of Matlock is great for shopping, bars and restaurants. Matlock Bath is known for its fish and chips and the Heights of Abraham cable car. Have a browse round the antique shops in Wirksworth, or a mooch round the tearooms in Ashbourne. 20 minutes drive away is the the picturesque market town of Bakewell, famous for it's scrumptious puddings (please note it is the Bakewell puddings not the Bakewell tarts that are the local speciality!). Also close by is the fantastic Tissington Trail which is great for family-friendly cycling along a disused railway line. Chatsworth House, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, is also very much worth a visit. Aswell as the incredible house itself, there are stunning gardens, cafes, shops and a farmyard and totally amazing adventure playground for the children. Tea, coffee, milk and biscuits are provided for arrival. Cooking basics such as oil, salt, pepper and herbs, plus clingfilm and kitchen foil are available. Please note we don't provide bathroom products such as shampoo and body wash for environmental reasons. We would like to avoid using little plastic containers that may be barely used then thrown away, so please bring your favourite beauty products from home.
