The internationally famous UNESCO World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Deer Park are a 5 minute drive from the cottage and a beautiful half hour walk through open countryside. www.nationaltrust.org.uk In the Deer Park you will see Sika, Red and Fallow Deer varieties in abundance. The William Burgess masterpiece, St Mary's church, is situated within the grounds of the park. Mad Hatter's cottage welcomes cyclists. Ripon Cathedral, the oldest in England, lies in the centre of the city and is just a 10 minute walk away from the cottage. Ripon was an inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Lewis Carroll's father was a Canon at the Cathedral and carvings on the Cathedral's misericords are thought to have inspired elements of the story. Ripon centre is easily accessed on foot and there are many beautiful walks directly from the property. Short car journeys will take you to Harrogate, Ripley, Pateley Bridge and Helmsley to name a few. There is a good bus service from the city centre, servicing the surrounding areas.
