Fabulous Family Beach House
A rare opportunity to stay in one of Andros' most sought-after beach properties. Located just 50 metres from the sea, Fellow Beach Retreat is a spacious, stylish haven of relaxation and amusement for all ages. Sleep 10. Located on Fellos Beach, 10 minutes drive north of Gavrion (where the ferries dock), Fellos Beach Retreat is a large family villa set just 50 metres back from one of Andros’ most beautiful bays. Surrounded by its own private olive groves, with direct access to the beach, the house is suited to everyone from couples looking for space and privacy, to large groups with children. Designed in modern-Cycladic style (simple, spacious rooms with white walls and grey, stone floors), the main villa consists of four double bedrooms spread over two floors (3 bedrooms downstairs accessed directly from the main terrace, 1 bedroom upstairs reached via a separate external staircase), and an independent, traditional-stone, 1-bed annexe known as the Shepherd's Hut with its own WC and outdoor shower. All the bedrooms have air-conditioning. Three spacious, interconnecting terrace areas provide plenty of space for outdoor dining, sitting and sun-bathing. Inside, there's a comfortable open-plan dining and sitting area with a large fireplace, plus a fully-equipped kitchen with white marble worktops. The main bathroom, a second lavatory, and a lovely outdoor shower area for rinsing off after swimming complete the picture downstairs. On the first floor, the master bedroom (with ensuite bathroom) enjoys spectacular views over the bay, and has it's own private roof-top terrace with sun-loungers. Discreetly positioned at the back of its own field, Fellos Beach Retreat enjoys both privacy and instant access to the beach. Ten minutes walk away, a pretty taverna known as “Andreas’s” offers traditional greek dining under a canopy of grape vines. A short drive over the hill (approx 10 minutes by car), the local town of Gavrion is pleasant and convenient for shopping, eating, and enjoying local café life. Eight kilometers beyond Gavrion, the charming fishing town of Batsì has a busier vibe, especially at night in high season when the bars and restaurants fill up. Andros itself is a uniquely beautiful island: the plentiful natural water supply has given it verdant, flower-filled valleys nestled between steep hillsides dotted with Byzantine and Venetian ruins. The beaches (our favourites include Vitali, Zorkos and Achla) are some of if not the best in the Cyclades, and there are plenty of cultural attractions including the Goulandris Museum of Contemporary Art in Chora; the Archaeological Museum of Andros, also in Chora; the Kydonieos Institute for exhibitions and concerts (Chora); the Museum of Paleopolis; plus stunning monasteries such as Panachrantos and Zoodochos Pighi. For something more unusual, visit the caves of Foros with their extraordinary stalacmites and stalactites, or take to the hills for lovely walks overlooking the Aegean sea. In its own, understated way, Andros really does have something for everyone and we hope you have a wonderful holiday on this special island. Access to the whole house House manager available 24/24 for enquiries and problem solving No public transport. Local car or motorbike hire available in Gavrion. We want you to know exactly what to expect when you arrive at our house, which was designed for easy-going outdoor summer living. Everyone has different expectations, so please note the following: - All bookings are "Covid protected". Cancellations for Covid-related reasons (eg borders closed) will be fully refunded. Please ask for more details. - Terms and Conditions apply. All guests will be asked to return a signed copy of the Terms and Conditions document before the start of the rental period. - The price includes meet-and-greet, twice-weekly cleaning and linen change (if required), and 24/7 availability of the house manager. - Maximum of 10 guests staying overnight at any time. Extra guests allowed only with written permission of the owner. A surcharge may apply. - No pets, events or parties. We're happy for you to have friends over for a meal, but gatherings of more than 18 people (including guests staying in the house) only with written permission of the owner. A surcharge may apply. - Only the upstairs bedroom and annexe have en-suite bathroom facilities. The three downstairs bedrooms share the main bathroom and two WCs. - The upstairs bedroom is accessed via a separate external staircase. - The annexe is about 20 metres from the house and completely visible from the terrace. It very much feels like part of the main house, and not a separate dwelling. - The annexe has its own WC and private outdoor showering area, but no hot water (given how hot it is in Greece, we find the tepid temperature of the pipe-warmed water very pleasant). - In the main house, the principal bathroom has a bath with shower over, WC and sink. Hot water too obviously! Next door there is a second WC, and outside there is another outdoor showering area (again, only pipe-warmed water). - None of the bedrooms are interconnecting. - The downstairs bedrooms in the main house are accessed directly from the main terrace, not an internal corridor. - All the bedrooms have air-conditioning, wall-mounted fans, shuttered windows and mosquito nets. - The Wi-Fi service at the house is usually good. There is very little reception for cell phones on the other hand, although it gets better on the first floor and towards the beach. - The tap water is safe to drink and cook with, but has a slightly brackish flavour. Most guests prefer to buy bottled water, or (like us) collect drinking water free of charge from the natural spring half way up the hill towards Gavrion. - The house is on a beach, not in a village, and there are therefore no shops or cafés in the immediate vicinity (thank goodness). The closest are a 10-15 minute drive away in Gavrion. - For the moment, we are delighted to say Fellos beach has no tourist facilities (eg beach bar, sun-loungers for hire etc). Long may it last....
