Le Moulin de Classe
This pretty gite, part of an 11th c. mill, nestles between a 15th-c. manor house and a small trout-fishing river. Entirely renovated, it is on one level, opening to a very sunny terrace. Rated 4-star for its amenities and comfort, relax and enjoy! We are ideally located to explore “Le Grand Ouest” (Western part of France). Day-trips in different directions will either take you to Brittany or the Normandy coast to visit the spectacular Mont St Michel or the D-Day beaches, or to Monet’s famous Giverny, the breath-taking cathedral of Chartres or, heading South, the Chateaux de la Loire and the first vineyards. Day-trips to Paris are also easily arranged by leaving your car at the local station and taking the TGV (55 minutes from Le Mans to Paris). Closer, less-known treasures will capture your attention, from prehistoric painted caves (Saulges) to a superb Gallo-Roman site (Jublains) or an imposing medieval fortified village (Ste Suzanne) and many, many chateaux (La Mayenne is the department with the most chateaux in France!) As for Le Mans and its world-famous 24hour car race, it is less than an hour from us. Finally, if your ideal holiday involves outdoor pursuits amidst peaceful, unspoilt countryside, the department of Mayenne is the destination for you. We are very close to the Regional Natural Park of Normandy-Maine and the beautiful site of Alpes Mancelles. Hiking, kayaking, cycling, riding, bird-watching, you name it and we will find it for you…even bungee-jumping or hiring a boat on the La Mayenne river! But spare some time to stroll along our well-maintained country paths, smell the wild flowers or pick blackberries. My husband and I speak fluent English, so does Liz who takes care of you when we are away (which happens often- so you might actually enjoy full ownership of the premises! ) Guests have access to almost all the property grounds (except the back of the mill). The gite is totally independent from the owner's house and has its own parking space. We are very discreet hosts, but will be happy to answer questions, as we have lived in the area for over twenty years! When we are away, Liz is in charge. She does not live on the premises, but will be there for you, on the phone for a question or available in person, if you need her presence. We like the calm, the privacy, the bird songs and the beautiful light, especially at sunset. The area is best discovered walking or cycling, or driving at low speed on small country roads. La Mayenne has secret charms that not many know about. Come discover it! We are somewhat isolated (although you can walk up to the bakery in the morning, 2km uphill, faster on the way back!). Best is to rent a car, or come with your own. Please note that our prices include bed linen and towels only for stays of one week or more. For week-ends and short stays, if you wish linen to be furnished, please contact us. Guests may bring their own linen or rent a kit for 20€ (for two). This will include bed linen, towels and kitchen linen, and your bed will be made on arrival. Our dates are flexible, with a minimum stay of 4 nights in July and August.
