Farlands Cottage in the Peak District is a great place to stay all year round. Fantastic walking from the door. Log fire, well equipped. An ideal place to retreat to. Farlands free-range eggs and Farlands comb honey for sale. Looking for something different? *** Farlands is a smallholding with chickens, turkeys, bees and a large veg garden and orchard. *** Tours available:- Smallholding Tour, Fruit and Nut Tour, The Green Tour. *** Take the Farlands Sustainability Challenge - details below We try to live as sustainably as possible:- - by growing our own fruit and veg (we are just about self-sufficient) - by keeping bees - by composting and recycling as much as possible - by having solar panels and a wood pellet boiler (our water is from a spring, and we have septic tanks; in effect we our zero-sum consumers of non-renewable energy) 3 tours are available:- Smallholding - general overview (1 or 2 hours) Fruit and Nut - view the orchard, cordon line, tree nursery, step-overs and discuss grafting and much more! The Green Tour - view and discuss the green energy systems (solar panels, biomass boiler, spring water, insulation, recycling) The Farlands Sustainability Challenge Sustainability has always been important to us: we’ve had a wood pellet boiler and solar panels for almost a decade. However, we need and want to do more! We are starting with single-use plastic, and we’d like you to help during your stay in the cottage, by: 1. Using glass milk bottles (we will leave a pint of semi-skimmed milk in your fridge; and you can order additional milk via us before you arrive) 2. Lining the kitchen bin with newspaper 3. Avoiding during your stay the top 4 plastic takeaway items: plastic bags, plastic bottles, straws and coffee cups Please let us know if you’d like to take the Farlands Sustainability Challenge, and if you do, remember to order your milk via us.
