During loving renovation, the house unveiled many historic secrets associated with the Cathars. There are 15 authentic stone arches scattered throughout the property and various 13th century paintings. The latter are currently under restoration with the first paintings unveiled in the village Maison de Patrimone (September 2014) revealing 20 chevaliers including one that depicts the coat of arms for Simon de Montfort who was hated in the Languedoc for his cruelty and ambition towards the Cathars - you are sure to feel you have taken a step back in time! However, with all mod cons and a comfortable feel to the living accommodation in the self catering gîte, it is history at its best! With arguably the most spectacular façade in the village, Neuf Rue de Cancans really is a gem nestled within the cobbled streets of a village voted 'One of Frances Prettiest' The Balcony Studio built in 2014 has been cleverly designed by Guy to create a light and bright spacious studio with its own private terrace with views that draw your eyes across the typical French terracotta roofs to the hills of Lagrasse. The terrace provides a secluded haven nestled in the walled garden with jasmine and roses winding its way through the beautiful wrought iron detail of the terrace created by Guy. The Studio, is reached by a handcrafted oak staircase that leads you into the generous sized studio, which is framed by a 6 metre wide window and an impressive beam that spam’s the length of the studio. The studio has been designed that it does not receive direct sunlight, only the private terrace. It has been cleverly designed with furniture placement and although actually one large room, feels like two separate areas. The bedroom has a king-size bed with large built in wardrobe and en-suite shower room with plenty of built in storage. The kitchen is fully equipped with all mod-cons, the lounge has two comfortable chairs with TV/DVD and steps that tempt you onto the terrace where there is a table, chairs and BBQ enabling you to sit back and relax in the ambience of our medieval walled garden. The studio has full wifi of 18MB and is fully air-conditioned. The apartment also includes access to the communal garden. One of the few houses within the village walls to have a garden - a little piece of paradise can be found. With its beautiful grassy lawn, 3 BBQ areas, a pizza oven, a recent addition, 5 terraces & solar heated secure pool with sun deck, spending time in the communal garden will be high on your list of priorities. Cathar Trail: As Lagrasse nestles in the foothills of the Pyrenees on the Cathar Trail there is an abundance of historic sightseeing to be done within the region. Water Sports: Lagrasse has a small river beach which is a fun place to spend time relaxing and excellent for fishing. For those who want more excitement the beaches at Lucate and Port Nouvelle are only half an hour away. Here you can wind surf, water ski, kite surf, book fishing trips, hire boats and go sailing. We provide: free wifi internet, bed linen plus tea towels and bath towels. Laundry facilities are on site. Cooler bags, ice packs etc are available for the days you would like to take a picnic. We can arrange holistic treatments, wine tasting, painting courses and for those feeling more energetic guided walking is available through the local countryside and bike hire can easily be arranged. For those of you bringing your own bikes we have plenty of secure space on site.
