Mersea island is home to some beautiful country side walks; cudmore grove being a popular destination for walkers. Mersea has a fantastic range of coffee shops, seafood restaurants and pubs. A couple to visit; The Coast Inn, The Oyster bar or the world famous company shed. Grab a spot of breakfast from black water pearl cafe. For a little treat on the water Lady Grace Boat trips are a fantastic way to see the Island for all its beautiful scenery. If its more relaxation your after or a fun day at the sea side we would reccommend a day out at the local beach where you can take a hamper for a day, or hire out a truly stunning each hut for a day; Mersea May beach hut hire is great for all the family. If its something to do with the little ones why not take them on a bike journey or to the Jetty where you can do a spot of crabbing for the afternoon and where you might see Mersea's own resident seal 'Sammy'. Mersea also has some faster paced activities such as 'Mersea Island watersports' where you can venture out on the water for the day learning how to paddleboard, windsurf or kitesurf. Although, If it's a rainy day why not visit Mersea museum where you can learn all about fascinating artefacts and finds. Or book yourself into The Gilt Rooms for a splendid themed afternoon tea great for big and small kids alike. Some other day activities can include fishing at day lakes such as Waldergraves holiday park. Or maybe Venture a bit further into Colchester town for the day to visit Colchester Castle park or the award winning Colchester Zoo Or maybe a day trip to Tiptree Jam Factory. (We heard it's the queens favourite) If its a little bit of romance your after; we would recommend a day trip to Dedham, where you can hire a rowing boat for a few hours and visit the beautiful church and get a spot of lunch in it's charming village. There is a new boating lake on Mersea island near ‘Essex outdoors’ east Mersea. They offer lessons on a safe boating lane for all kinds of water sports like paddle boarding, kayaking, small sailing etc. You can find it online. There is also lots to do at Essex outdoors great for family activity days out! Pre booking essential but they do things like archery, wall climbing, high ropes etc worth checking out for a family day out! Two further restaurants to try also; both east Mersea are Mersea Barns cafe with a great outdoor play area and fields to run around in, they serve breakfast and lunch and even have a little shop and deli. Then right next door again in east Mersea is a newly renovated and opened Jan 2020 is seafood restaurant ‘seafood at dawn’ as you can guess a local fish restaurant using the freshest catches from Mersea island fishing boat ‘The dawn’. There are regular hourly buses to and from Colchester town centre approximately 8 miles away. Do be aware of the strood high tides where water will cover the causeway for an hour or so as this can affect your travel plans, We can provide you with a tide table. With a bus stop just a few moments away from your accommodation. We have a Tesco express directly opposite and a local CO-OP down the road so shopping is quite an easy task. Taxi's can be booked in advance; we can provide you with a few numbers. The nearest train station is in Colchester Town which has direct links to London Liverpool street and surrounding areas. The station is approximately 25-30 minute drive from Mersea Island. I also run a small business below which is a local tea room where you can get breakfast each day, order fresh lunch hampers to take away for the day with you on a trip out at the beach, park or exploring.
