The house of Petralia is a beautiful and spacious home located in the historic center of the medieval town of Petralia at about 1150 meters above sea level , in the heart of the Madonie park .   The house is comfortable , furnished with original restored and equipped with central heating with radiators and fireplace. It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and can accommodate up to eight people. It consists of several levels that can be achieved through self- access . From the street of Corso Umberto I 127 , through the main door leads to a first chamber furnished with antique furniture with two beds and an adjoining bathroom , in the first floor is a large welcoming space characterized by walls in brick antique and wooden mezzanines . Here a first area , furnished with an antique wooden table, is dedicated to breakfast and is close to the ancient kitchen covered with tiles of Santo Stefano di Camastra , next you open the living-dining room with sofa bed and armchairs placed in front of the beautiful fireplace. On the floor of the mezzanine floor there are: a bedroom with two single beds and a double bedroom served by a bathroom with shower and bidet. The house also has a terrace furnished with a small barbeque. Wandering from the square , located in front of Hotel Petra , you can access an old wine cellar equipped as bicycle storage . Despite being close to the popular seaside resort of Cefalu (just 60 km) , the home of Petralia is an ideal vacation spot for lovers of small medieval towns surrounded by nature and for those who want to explore the area with hiking, cycling, nature walks . The house of the painter from Petralia takes its name from the fact that the master Vittorio Cerami lived in this house for years ,he was an elementary school teacher and sailor of the Royal Italian Navy, and was among the few survivors of the famous Battle of Cape Matapan that was fought between the 28 and 29 March 1941 in the waters south of the Peloponnese, between the islet of Gavdos and Cape Matapan , including a squadron of the Royal Italian Navy under the command of Admiral Angelo Iachino team , and the British Mediterranean Fleet Admiral Andrew Cunningham . The battle itself is composed of two fights : one that fought in the vicinity of the islet of Gavdos in the morning and the afternoon of 28 March, and a second off Cape Matapan in the night between 28th and 29th March. The battle , which ended with a clear British victory , highlighted the inadequacy of the Royal Navy to night fighting and temporarily handed over to the Royal Navy's supremacy over the Mediterranean , inflicting heavy losses , moral and material , to the Royal Navy , and influencing future offensive capabilities . Among the crew of the cruiser River there was the sailor Vittorio Cerami of Petralia , who remained in the water at night for hours and hours seeing his comrades die without doing anything. He was recovered among the corpses of dead men , and for years he could not forget that tragic night . After a few years , returned to his country , he began to paint using the colors as a means to communicate the pain and the fear of that night. Although self-taught , the teacher Cerami has produced dozens of paintings, among which the most famous one that reproduces the sinking of Cape Matapan in the night of 29 March 1941. Today his paintings rich in color and pain furnish the rooms and walls of the house of the painter of Petralia .
